[OLD] HOW TO MOD A SWITCH WITH SMASH MODS

OKOKOK SO BASICALLY THE NEWEST VERSION OF THE SWITCH (14.1.0) HAS A WEIRD THING WHEN UPDATING. WHEN U NORMALLY UPDATE IT IS JUST AS SIMPLE AS DRAGGING IN THE NEW ATMOSPHERE AND SOMETIMES THEP NEW HEKATE (you just have to check). BUT WITH THIS NEW UPDATE IT IT KICKED OUT THE SKYLINE FILES SO YOU NEED TO REDOWNLOAD BOTH SKYLINE DOWNLOADS (yes drag in the ultimate folder and everything you see in those zip files). THE PROCESS HAS CHANGED A BIT AND I CAN IMPROVE UPON THIS TUTORIAL SO I WILL BE MAKING A NEW ONE TO COVER EVERYTHING (gonna do the Arcropolis mod stuff, all of the old stuff, and cover a bunch of FAQs that I had in the comments section here). pls help me!! i've done exactly everything you've said. I've successfully sent the hekate payload and have hacked my switch, however when i open smash, it's totally normal and i don't receive the message at all

This could be because ur skyline was not installed properly. Make sure to get both versions of skyline (the release.zip for the cosmetics and the skyline.zip for the training modpack stuff). That should be the issue. If the problem persists make sure your switch is on the proper version (the most recent 13 one) and just make sure to follow the download process for everything again and make sure all of the versions of each download match

@@Hawkeye_02 I've successfully installed Arcadia but when i load it up i get a message that say's "ARCropolis config file not detected! Please run Smash Ultimate with Arcropolis set up!" I merged the arcropolis atmosphere folder with the atmosphere folder on the root of my SD card as instructed and have the .nro, but it still doesn't work... Any ideas? Thank you

@@JojosASMR I am not familiar with arcadia, so you could try to go into the switch modding discord and explain the compatibility issue you are having between arcropolis and arcadia. They should hopefully be able to help you out there.

I already have arcropolis/skyline installed (with dialogue) but my mods aren’t loading, only thing working is my attack on titan opening for the intro video I did see that only fighter and ui goes into arc folder which I did put other stuff in there (boss,etc.) Let’s see if this works now lol

Mods on switch turn off when you fully shut down or restart the switch. Sleep mode won’t make the mods go away. But to bring them back when u do shut it down or restart then you just need to put the RCM Clip back in and repeat the inject payload process

Hey man! This worked!! I tried for days using other tutorials. But then I used yours, and got it in like 30 minutes. Thank you so much. Quick question too. If I wanted to add more skins to my characters, do I just pop my SD out, put new skins in the mod folder, reinsert the SD back into the switch, and power on and im good to go? Or do I need to boot up with tegra again?

Hey, if you mod the switch thans nintendo can detect custom code when you go online right? Or are you safe as long as you dont do anything that attracts attention from nintendo? For instance i just want to backup my rom so i can play smash on my pc. Will nintendo still ban you in this case or is this probably to sudtle and nothing of concern? Also do you maybe know if it is possible to unmod your switch later or is this not possible?

nope! if you ever look into cosmetic mods then just check the description to see if they are listed as “wifi-safe” but outside of that ur all good

It works the same way. You can take the micro sd card out the switch and just drag in the mods the same way (most are like the KH Cloud in the example). Then just put it back in your switch and use the RCM Clip like the first time and do the inject payload stuff.

I would recommend double checking which files u put in the SD card and make sure everything is the most recent version. Redoing the process and making sure yours looks just like mine in the tutorial can definitely help as well

No there is no harm. All you will have to do if it doesn’t work is delete all of the installed files off the micro sd card then ur switch will function as normal

I had this issue in the past and it was because I didn’t have skyline installed. I would recommend attempting to reinstall it and make sure u got the most recent version of everything

heya, So I installed everything accordingly to the video, however once I turn it on with safe mode using my paperclip, I go ahead and try to eject payload and the switch simply doesn't want to boot and I stay stuck at the initial safe mode black screen. Yes, you just won’t need to download skyline, the gamebanana stuff or the training modpack. From there that’s just a normal switch mod without anything specific and you’d just need to go elsewhere to find BOTW specific stuff for modding.

Yep! You’ll take the folder out of the zip of the skin you’re trynna add and put it into the mods folder. After that you’ll do the RCM clip and inject payload process the exact same as before.

Hey, this tutorial is great! I used it to add a ton of mods previously, and had no issues. However, I recently updated smash to version 13.0.1, and added a couple new mods after the patch. I followed your tutorial exactly, all the way up until you tapped launch, and tapped the FSS SYS option to boot up the switch with mods, but after I tap that, my switch just doesn't do anything. I can't turn it on again unless I take out the micro SD card. Is there something that I am doing wrong? Edit: Just checked to make sure my Switch is not patched, and it isn't, so not sure what the issue is still.

If you updated your switch to the newest version you will need to put ur micro sd card into ur computer and get the newest version of atmosphere to match! Just download it and drag it into what u have currently and replace whatever files say need to be replaced. After that put it back in ur switch and do the RCM clip stuff

I don’t think it matters. I actually think you may be able to format it in the way the other folder works. Though feel free to drag in the fighter and ui folders and allow multiple to merge, just is more painful to remove individual mods in the event u wanna do that

You need to make sure that you are opening the rar files and taking out the folder in them. The mods won’t load off the rar files themselves.

for that portion specifically it’s important to make sure you installed the skyline file. (the one for the training modpack and the one by itself) as this is what smash mods run off of so i’d recommend just going back and reinstalling both skyline.zips in the description

Unfortunately the method doesn’t exist quite yet as there is no mod chip for the patched switches to allow it to be modded. I’ll most likely make a video when it is possible

Only if u pirate games illegally or use mods on smash that aren’t WiFi safe (which they’ll say in the gamebanana but 99% of cosmetic mods are WiFi safe). Music mods for smash can alter the opponents game too so if that happens u can get WiFi banned too. You’ll be a-okay if it’s just cosmetic mods tho and training modpack

But I downloaded this Drip K Rool mod for fun and its comes with victory music which is a custom song not in the original game and the thing is I like it so I would like to keep the sound file would that get me banned?. And if my character has custom voice lines would that get you banned?

Hello! Thanks for the guide. I'm doing this for the first time, so I'm pretty confident that all of the downloads I'm using are the newest versions. When I try to start Smash I get "the software was closed because an error occurred". This doesn't happen with Pokemon Shining Pearl. Both are physical cartridges. Any guesses on what I'm doing wrong?

If you are running the latest version of the new switch update (the one with folders) you are going to have to wait to play with mods since there isn’t an atmosphere yet. I’d recommend restarting ur switch normally and if the issue persists archive and redownload the software. Just unfortunate timing since this is a big switch update so hopefully it’ll be out within the next week.

this video will only show u how to mod your switch. game specific mods like mario u deluxe u can find a specific guide to install those. once u finish doing the actual modding portion here, installing game specific mods should be really easy since all you have to do is see how a video or guide installs the mods for that game and u don’t need to worry about the general switch mods anymore

with the newer updates you need to click on the eshop icon, then click on mod options and enable all the mods. they don’t all enable by default the first time you load in

I used a usb a to usb c cable. The one that comes with ur switch should work. Sometimes it won’t be compatible with tegra which you’ll know if it makes the windows connection noise and tegra doesn’t say RCM okay. This is when u just need to swap cables

I just did a bit of research and I believe it does work with EmuMMC. Everything is safe if u just do the cosmetic stuff. Once u do stuff like giga bowser (stuff that actually changes the game) u could get banned. But anything purely cosmetic (or anything labeled WiFi-safe by the mod creator is good to go)

i plugged my switch into my computer then it made a sound that it is connected but it still says no rcm 9:29

This could be 1 of 2 things. Either the drivers for the computer aren’t installed and need to be (process *should* automatically occur if using the installer). I’d double check by going to the apx_driver folder and reinstalling the drivers using the same method I used to install them. Or the switch didn’t boot into safe mode properly and just needs to be fully shut down and then repeat the RCM Clip process

Mine says that the payload was successfully injected but nothing happens. My switch also says that it’s not sure if it can be modded on the webpage. Is this how it’s supposed to look when it fails or did I do something wrong?

All you need to do is not download the training modpack, skyline, and the skins as I mentioned in the video and you’re good to go. Hope this helps

Yes! There are some mods that aren’t WiFi safe but the non WiFi safe mods will be listed as such in game banana. 99% of the cosmetic mods are WiFi safe as well
