I had a crash course in KZbin furnace today with this horrendous artic weather that reached Texas. I narrowed everything down to the controller board. Thanks for you videos. Your work arounds made me look at my bad board. Problem is burner exhaust fan not working. I found a spare blank on the main and moved and soldered lug to the blank hot. The furnace now runs while we have sub freezing temperatures. I'll order the replacement Honeywell universal board.

Ted, I have watched you so many times and unless you have it written down, or reviewed your videos you have an incredible memory! The wires you pull, even on the best of days, would leave me somewhat befuddled!

I’m working on a furnace that has the same control board. I can’t find the model or serial number of the air handler. Can you provide a model and serial number to get a schematic.

really great information. 🧐 seems like the both the factory board and then the universal one failed. Mmm. 🤔 since the PCB change out is common, having a little hardware package would be helpful for next time. great advice. thanks a lot. 🙂 👌

Furnace man says he "temporary" fixed ny furnace until contol board comes in... however I don't see any snipped wires or jumper wires or soldering or anything. I think my pressure switch went bad again which went out 3 years ago too... 3 years ago a company told me I needed a new furnace. I called a mom n pop place and they replaced pressure switch and furnace ran fine... unfortunately the mom n pop placed closed down during covid and I don't trust these big companies..

That tan colored resistor towards the center left looked quite burnt. Even left some smoke trails on the board.

Job approved. Looks like the previous board contacted the blower housing somehow. Like the standoffs weren't long enough.

Just fixed mine about a month ago and the same relay burned up. Figured it might have had to do with excessive amp draw so closer checking revealed the 10MFD capacitor tested 6.6. Purchased a $30 used board on eBay and replaced it and the capacitor. Running great under full load amps.

I would probably fix and keep that board and throw it in the "charity pile", for people on a fixed income. I love doing PCB solder rework, SMD or through-hole. As long as the MCU isn't fried...the board isn't corroded (liquid damaged) beyond repair...and free of any internal PCB layer shorts, I'll spend a few bucks on parts from Digikey or Mouser to see if i can bring back to life. Good video, Ted.

I replaced a very similar relay on the control board of an Electrolux electric stove. The relay had shorted out and melted the solder off of the terminals. Personally I'm surprised it didn't catch on fire. The new relay has a higher current rating.

I don't understand why you always pull all of the wires off the boards, when you change them. It's just as easy to take the board off, mount the new board and replace the wires one at a time. All you new guys don't do it Ted's way until you get some experience.
@timb92124 жыл бұрын
You change a few and it's all the same, quicker to rip then al out then reinstall once board is in place. Some transformer leads are only 4 inch or less which doesn't give option to swing old board out of way

I can’t believe you took the tape off the door switch! Ha
@skyym36294 жыл бұрын
I mentioned in a comment about how those door switches were originally put in by the manufacturers because the older units were many times located where the homeowner could easily access it. The homeowners also had to take off the blower cover to replace the air filter and sometimes they would leave the cover off and it would suck carbon monoxide from the combustion chamber where the burners are at, into the return air. Those units are not around anymore and I haven't heard of a fatality or injury from someone doing this very thing in almost three decades now. I'm with you and I feel those door switches are just a pain in the arse and really do not prevent or protect anyone. Thanks for the vids, info, and entertainment. God bless bro.

In the attic, I'd agree. In a basement where kids roam unattended, you never know what they will get into. One kid decided to cut a lamp cord with a scissors, and when I was a kid, I put a wire across a cheater plug and plugged it in. It sparked a lot, but didn't blow a fuse.
@Imwright7204 жыл бұрын
Why not replace the relay if that’s what’s bad. ❓
@timb92124 жыл бұрын
Practically no one replaces parts on pcb anymore. It's a disposable world we live in. It'd be cheaper to add separate relay, which I do all the time on units where it's applicable.
