As an European, I find your videos so interesting and pleasant to watch. I always wondered why many drivers choose older trucks over newer ones. Thanks.

I been driving a 2023 Freightliner Cascadia and have driven it since new, 97,564 miles currently on the odometer, 0 yes ZERO issues, not a single bit of downtime. It took a while to deal with the automatic transmission, I'd rather have a manual anyday. DD15 is a workhorse, average mpg is 7.75! My application is pulling a tanker, common running loads around 60, 000 lbs through the mountains of Virginia West Virginia and North Carolina. Again, zero issues!

@@toddhenkelmon1599 I’m staying with my 12.7 Detroit of 1997….I can over those hills about 7-7.25 on normal day…it will go down in bad weather or in frigid temperatures….still happy in nasty weather with 6-6.5 mpg.

@@RomeoUrsu-fy9qo my previous tractor was a 2015 Columbia Glider had the 12.7, built in 1998. It was a great truck. But in terms of the truck itself aging, close to 1.5 million miles I just got tired of replacing components and parts, repairs were tiresome. It wasn't a very comfortable truck and pretty loud inside due to lack of insulation. Upgraded to what I have now makes driving much much more enjoyable. A fuel savings of 1 mile per gallon is enormous. Ronen can attest to that.

I couldn't agree more. Newer is more fuel efficient. Driver comfort is hands down much better. Automatic over manual. I have a 2017 kenworth t680, and I pull a pneumatic tank. MOG empty is 8 to 10. Loaded is 6 to 8 depending on what part of the country I am in. As always thank you brother for all you do. God bless

I always love your videos, however I would love to see your Cascadias going in NY or PA mountains, with 45000lb. The only trucks that garauntee that, are 2024 Volvos, with 425hp, 1300rpm, but they do going 20mph up those hills. I believe the landscape and weight, that's what make your miles per gallon.

I leased a 2016 freightliner Cascadia. That lasted about 4 weeks and I turned it in. Day 3 the entire SAM Cab went out and then a ton of after treatment issues. I asked about it recently since the company sent it off for repairs and I was told they were going through all the emissions issues and now it needs a new one box. I bought a 1998 Volvo with a 3406 Cat. Yes it needs some work and yes I blew a head gasket. But overall that truck is making me more money and is much more reliable. 2.5m total miles and that freightliner only had 600K when I turned it in. I’ve proved to myself that the old school is better as long as it was maintained. To be honest I’m sure that freightliner would’ve done fine if it were maintained properly. I don’t believe the previous owner knew what they were doing. But still I’d be replacing those after treatment parts one at a time down the road and the Sam Cab is completely unpredictable. The new trucks can Nickle & Dime you to death. Oh and my MPG is just fine. If you know throttle control you can do well with the old engines. All your fuel savings on the new trucks will go into repairs, so can it really even be considered? If you buy brand new it’ll do you good 2-4 years and then it’s going to start costing you.

My newest truck is 1993. All 4 are Peterbilts and rebuilt from front to back and all 100 percent paid for. I'm 33 years old and there's no way these old trucks will bankrupt me. But I understand fleets of 100 trucks really need to run brand new trucks. Especially since they haul cheap general freight

Hi Ronen Missed the Live but I put my question here: Do you have any experience with the International trucks with the new s13 engine who is basicly a american build Scania 13 litre engine. Those engines are very popular in Europe and have a very good fuel economy. (and should perform even better in a more aerodynamic american truck) If you havent it would be cool if you get one to test it out.

Alternatively, you can think of it as, he is responsible for dozens of trucks and needs to ensure each of them is earning so drivers can be paid. You, as a driver, may have the liberty and freedom to complain about which trucks you want to drive, but if every trucker was given an older rig to run less than a 6 mpg, you would most likely have to complain about not being paid enough

FWIW I completely understand the plus of the modern aerodynamic "trucks" from a business perspective. But as a driver, I got into trucking to drive trucks. These modern trucks feel to me like I'm driving a minivan (hyperbole of course but you get the point). And to be completely honest, the more I see and here about the longhoods going away makes me not want to be in this industry for much longer. I get the business sense of it all. If we're being honest, everything is business oriented (at least the times that we're living) but the human experience side of it all is dying which it is a huge reason why we are so divided as a species. Businesses forget the reason why anyone is in business. It's to improve the human experience. So while these modern trucks make sense from a business perspective, they suck the biggest of dongs from a human perspective. My $0.02!
