So very sad to hear the passing of Bernard. I used to watch this with my children. My eldest was two when this started. He is nearly 11 now and we all sat down at bedtime and rewatched the last episode together just like old times. I admit I did shed a tear. Bernard was such a joy to watch not only in this but in many other programmes for children and adults alike. He will be sorely missed.

I googled what he was famous for and it said ‘Doctor Who’ but….. *Old Jack’s Boat* : What about meeeee😭😭😭😭. I’m a lot older now since I used to watch this but I heard he’d passed and went onto ‘Cebesies’ radio and they had released 3 podcasts of old jacks boat dedicated to him. I listened to them and sung along to the theme song. ✨Just Salty Dog And Me✨

@@pixiez4754 same except was my grandad who lived by the sea and he used to take me out on boats and i used to love this show because it reminded me of him. He is still alive but seeing this show back is very nostalgic for me and knowing bernard died is just heartbreaking.

I used to watch this with my son he loved old jack and salty dog, he's 14 now and giving me such a difficult time; I remember how I loved our early evenings watching this on cbeebies with my angel before his bedtime... any teenagers watching this for nostalgia please be easy on your mothers and fathers we love you more than you can ever know.

Sorry to hear that and I hope he swings back to his old self. They often do, and regret most of what they said and did. These days, peer pressure and the internet instil bravado, fear and confusion. The internet wasn’t about when I was his age and I’m glad. We still had a good life growing up, and we didn’t have pressure to be like someone else. These so called influencers and whatever else kids look to and follow. Keep up the good work and see what happens. You will be rewarded by your lad returning to you just as he was, eventually. With regret and remorse I hope. Mum used to tell people I was a model son, and the teachers backed that up. My brother was always battling with Ma and the teachers used to compare us both as he was a bit of a handful at school 😂 However, he has turned out to be the best father his kids could have, sorted himself out, has worked since he left school, never claimed for anything and has grandkids who adore him. I have no kids nor grandkids so none of us can predict on what is happening right now. Ma isn’t about anymore, to remind anyone who will listen, of my halo as a kid! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

God hearing that good old theme song after what feels like forever ago it brought back some memories from when I was but a wee lad myself, I was only 2 or 3 when I first watched this but Jesus did it stick with me for a while. I didn’t know it back then but Bernard was in two shows I watched, and when I learnt of his passing a couple years back I couldn’t help but remember the shows I’d watched that he’d been in, it was only recently though when I remembered rockpool tales. Bernard was an absolutely fantastic man who deserves to be remembered and respected in the years to come. Fly high Bernard, Fly high
