Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep was originally released on the PSP in 2010. In the PS4 collections under 1.5 and 2.5 Remix, a remaster of Birth by Sleep was put onto the collection under the Final Mix version of the game, which included more content and cutscenes, however this time with an entirely English voice over for those originally Japanese-only scenes. This Final Mix version of Birth by Sleep is what Caddy will be looking at today, and it turns out this was more important to the Kingdom Hearts story than he ever anticipated. @@RekizFilms if this is your first playthrough of the series, probably 2. If not, then maybe 358/2. Some characters in 358/2 are first unveiled in 2. I think the intro to KH2 becomes a little more compelling in some aspects with 358/2 first, while you are more likely to identify with Roxas' journey in 2 when playing 2 first.

Your saves aren’t broken Caddy. None of the stickers are placed in areas you are unable to backtrack to. All you need to do is collect them, and beat the final bosses again for each character, and you’ll get the true ending.

Hey Caddy just to clarify, Ventus wasn't originally supposed to forge the X-blade, he was supposed to be Xehanort's vessel, which Terra eventually became, but Ventus didn't have the darkness required to do so. Vanitas was created moreso to be a minion, but when Sora shared his light, the whole thing was able to occur.

Also the reason why Ventus doesn't wake up is because his heart completely left his body to heal inside Sora's. Only when Sora gives him his heart back will he truly wake up.

You could load those completed saves. It would just take you back to the last save point in the Keyblade Graveyard. Then you can just go back any world to get the stickers you missed. The journal keeps track of how many are in each world. It's not all that time consuming with all the abilities. Like maybe two hours or so. A lot less time then replaying the game.

@@ZephyrHills Depends on the difficulty. I think you have to complete the journal in Beginner. In Standard you have to get all the stickers with each character and kill 9999 Unversed. But that's not with each character. That's your overall total between the three. So that's not that hard. Proud mode you just have to get each sticker. While in Critical you don't have to do anything.

Is it common to play prequels last? I thought it was pretty obvious to play the game in release order. It’s not uncommon that game developers release prequels to their games and only mention those characters after. And looking at the layout of 1.5 2.5 and 2.8 they pretty much tell you what order to play the game

Yeah, I still don't really understand what his thought process was. Caddy's defense is very...odd. He said he wanted to play the games in chronological order...but by that logic he should have played Birth By Sleep first, considering it takes place 10 years before the first Kingdom Hearts. He didn't even play it in release order..he just saved BBS for last because it was a "prequel"? But again, by his explanation, if it's a prequel, why didn't he play it first? Why save the prequel for last? He even says in the video that "DDD is the latest chronologically"...then why did you play BBS after it?!? For a comparison, it feels like he was going by the logic for the first six star wars movies? The prequels can be watched after the original trilogy without missing a lot. The difference is that the star wars prequels were all released one after the other AFTER the original trilogy had already been completed. Birth By Sleep, however, was released AFTER KH2 but BEFORE Re:Coded and DDD. Because of that, Coded and DDD continues story points that were already introduced in BBS, because the developers expected you to play that game first. Either way, whether you play the games chronologically or by release date, Birth By Sleep should be played BEFORE Coded and DDD. I love Caddy but I'm very confused...🧐

Ventus is actually from the age of Back Cover, and is among a group called the Dandelions who time-travelled forward into the future to avoid the apocalypse. I don’t know if Xehanort knew this, but that does explain where Ventus came from at least.

The funny thing is I always thought something was off in kingdom hearts 2 when it came to Roxas. When they did the big shocking reveal of the giant painting and Everyone recognized him as Ansam right away, A question quickly started floating around in my head if both the heartless and the nobody of the big villain look identical to each other then why does Roxas look different from Sora? And then in the subsequent games they started throwing a little hints and clues that Roxas is a little more then just Sora’s nobody.

The arena was a multiplayer thing in the PSP version, and since the PS3/PS4 ports are single player only it became... redundant. And btw, you HAVE to complete all the arena mini games alongside their main game counterparts if you want to get 100% reports completion.

I wonder if Caddy would be as thrilled about the combat if he played on critical. Well either way I think he explained the good parts of the combat extremely well. I just think that if he plays on a far less forgiving difficulty with the damage you take being far greater he could potentially walk away with a much more negative opinion of the combat experience. The problems with attempting to avoid damage become far more apparent when you take a lot of it from having your shoulder tapped.

You've probably been told by now but if you go to the command board outside the arena there are more special panels with good skills to get and you can keep the commands you steal from your opponents (you can't do that in the arena) Also you don't have to play the game again to unlock the secret ending. Go to each character's save, collect the stickers you don't have, then beat one of their final bosses and you'll unlock it

Actually, Ventus was also in Union X as one of the members to be a replacement Union leader and part of a group called the Dandelions(I'm not kidding, that's actually the group's name for what happens after the Keyblade War).

For what happened with Ven, its actually that because his darkness was removed from him by force that he would no longer live on till a infant Sora shared his light with Ven so he could live on so Ven can get his other half back. As for why he fell into a deep long sleep at the end, Ventus lost his heart at the end of the inside battle with Vanitas and went to Sora to recover till his heart finds its way back to his body.

I love the battle system but it was incredibly broken. Magic was particularly overpowered. Magnet, Mine and Surge made combat with common enemies effortless and Shotlocks completely obliterated 90% of the bosses. With the exception of the first few bosses on Critical Mode and the two final secret bosses, none of the enemies lasted more than three minutes.

I'm hoping you neglected the true true ending exclusive to the 2.5 versions intentionally so you can include it in your 0.2 Birth By Sleep: A Fragmentary Passage review... The Command Board, or Fortune Street as it's probably better known as, is big in Japan.(Think Monopoly coupled with a district-based stock market. The CB omits the latter, however) Couple that with the fact that The Mirage Arena on PSP had Multiplayer functionality, and then on top of your massive undertaking of 3 character campaigns, the true ending chapter, and also 3 modes of multiplayer; Cart racing, FOrtune Street Lite, and COmbat Coop. This PSP game was positively PACKED with content and is my personal fav PSP game, along with being my personal fav KH game.

Caddy the reason Ven's body didnt disappear despite his heart being gone is because it didnt fall to darkness, remember that, just like Kairi, Ven has a heart of pure light due to what Xehanort did to him. Likewise, this is why Kairi's body didnt disappear either and just remained empty and comatose in KH1.

Right as you uploaded this I've been playing Birth By Sleep on critical mode with "Zero EXP" on. It is so easy to die, but it's so interesting that you could play the game at level 1 to the end.

Final comment hopefully From what we know in ddd destiny islands is the original home of xehanort, the young version of the old xehanort that is, so him taking ventus there, the name destiny islands really is more symbolic that way, it symbolizes the beginning of one's path most of the time, Sora and Riku's path towards fighting the darkness, ventus' path to facing vanitas, xehanorts' path towards his goal of taking over kingdom hearts ventus in the beginning was given part of sora's heart, he gave it to him so he wouldn't die, but by the end, ventus' heart went back to sora after defeating vanitas (or rather locking him away for a while since he is back in kh3)

Hey Caddy, It's worth noting that if you load a completed file it will send you back to before the final boss, so you can gather the missing items, beat the boss again and save the new completed file. The game still doesn't really tell you this, but there isn't a need to replay all 3 stories!

For the record the secret ending is not softlocked if you beat the game. If you go back into your save and complete the requirements you can just go back to the final boss and it will count. Also I suggest you don't use the command board at all because any reward you can get from it can be received by normal gameplay

Caddy. Caddy Caddy Caddy. I achieved the secret ending on the easiest difficulty. Here is how I did it: 1 - Collect every single chest in all 3 campaigns 2 - Collect every ability/skill in all 3 campaigns 3 - All Reports in all 3 campaigns 4 - Try every minigame ONCE for all 3 campaigns 5 - Complete sticker book for all 3 campaigns. Do this, and you will obtain your secret ending.

So a couple fun facts. You can beat the game again by just walking up to the final boss after you collected the stickers. Then if you resave on the same save then you can get the true ending. Also with the command boards at the save points some of the boards hold commands that you can only get from the save point boards. They are not that important but if you are going for a 100% completion then you have to do those boards. Great video and I can’t wait to see your opinion on fragmentary passage

A quick explanation of why the board game is in BBS. The creator really likes board games, his father actually use to make some for them to play with, so he wanted to continue that in BBS. It makes more sense in the PSP context, since you could play the game online and against other people. The arena area was originally a Multiplayer area, so you could play with your friends. You could even customize what your Keyblade armor looked like.

19:00 some rewards are exclusive to the regular menu because the arena was originally multiplayer, so they wanted incentive to play it on your own if you didn't have friends.

Xehanort wasn't specifically trying to make a fake x-blade. He was just experimenting really. Considering the orginal x-blade split into 13 parts of darkness and 6 parts of light, he just tried to mrge a heart of pure light with a heart of pure darkness. Ventus' darkness wasn't anythign special. He wanted Ven to give int his darkness so he could steal his heart, but Ventus darkness wasn't strong enough, and like you said, he is kind of a pacifist. He removed Vens darkness, which almost killed Ven, so he went to his home to have Ven die there. But then Vens heart got healed by Sora, and Xehanort brought him to Eraqus, so he could train him, to be powerful enough to merge both the light and dark. Also he found Terra there, that had darkness in him allready, so he got himself a new candidate for a vessel. I other words, ven was a testrun, that failed,and Xehanort started a few other tries, with the 7 princesses in 1, and the artificial Kingdom Hearts in 2. So now were on his 4th try in KH3. We'll see how it goes this time.

I can only recommend you play it as soon as possible. It's my personal favorite, and I'm sure a lot of other people have already explained to you why you should play it. It it of course up to you, but I still strongly recommend it. And since it's originally a PSP game, it's not that long

I'm guessing someone's already mentioned this in the comments, however there are commands you can get from the command board from save points that you can't get from the arena - i didn't realize this for ages and wasted so much time trying to get non-existant bonus pannels in the arena

The board game part of Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep is based on a really popular series of games called Itadaki Street in Japan, so I guess it's included based on that. You can buy a full version of it in the UK on the Wii called "Boom Street", which has Mario and Dragon Quest characters. It's a fun multiplayer experience.

So the reason why the kart racing and command boards are in the mirage arena is that in the original PSP version of the game there was multiplayer that you could do those with up to 2 additional players, including super bosses in the Japanese final mix version of the game. However with the console re-releases of the game, they removed the multiplayer aspect of the mirage arena, yet keeping skills such as group curaga in the game for some reason.

You can do the Command Board from Save Points because the exclusive commands only unlocked on those specific boards are only available from the save menu. If you do them in the Mirage Arena, you cannot unlock those commands, only get the medals. It's one of my least favorite features because if you want to 100% the game, you have to do it with Terra, Ven, and Aqua.

The arena was originally the multiplayer area for the psp large chunks of it were left in the ps4 version without any of the multiplayer aspect.
