Its a song about a spirit that has stayed behind and resides in the person but is not leaving. The person is trying to convince them they can leave. Like the other person stated, Michael has had experiences when he's moved into new places and felt spirits.

Think about it like a man's thoughts to him self about what he has done right before his execution. Many people turn to religion to try and find salvation for what he has done, therefore "shotgun blues" at least that's how I feel from hearing it

Tickled pink you did a Volbeat song!😃 This is from the newest album. My honey said that he wrote this when he bought their house and believed it was haunted and it was the catalyst for much of the music for this album.
