Old Mirror Turned Chalkboard Art

I hope you liked this DIY video of turning an old mirror into a chalkboard!

I love that you shared your challenges with this project. If you do this again with a mirror in the future, you can try something like Dixie Belle's Slick Stick. It's made to prime smooth surfaces before painting.

If you sand the surface of the mirror and use primer then you don’t have to take it apart.

Simple solution...Walmart sells chalkboard contact paper. A roll runs about 5 bucks and there's plenty on there to make a few of these projects. I covered an ugly door with a full length chalkboard mirror and it became my grocery list. Still had plenty of that roll to do several other projects.

My lettering was by no means perfect, but all the imperfections go away when you stand far back from it :p So I'll just have anyone visiting view it from a minimum of 4 feet away haha

Maybe using a primer before putting down the chalkboard paint will prevent it from peeling.

Do you remember what kind of roller you used? I’m trying to use this exact chalkboard paint on a board and I can’t get good even coverage. Also, have you tried erasing the chalk marker?

Chalk marker is horrible to try and get off *if* you can. Some have luck with magic eraser- but I feel as if it only works if the marker isn’t sitting long on the board. I had to completely re cover a board with the marker because I tried everything.

+kateena clarke I used colored pencil to color/scribble over the back side of the image. Then when I traced over the top, the colored pencil transferred onto the chalkboard :) I hope that makes sense!

Hi! I really enjoy all your videos and your sense of humor and ironic delivery. You come across as a really down to Earth personality that likes to figure things out for yourself. Good for you! BTW, I did notice that your left down stroke on the 'r' of "Tree" didn't get traced in. If you did that, it would match the stroke of the 'r' in "Christmas. I don't mean to be critical; its just that I have a hard time proofing my own work at times and think it is perfect, only to discover ages later that I missed an obvious step along the way. :) Keep up that good work! You'll never regret having a creative outlet!

Rosemarie Bristol, the ‘r’ in Tree doesn’t have a down stroke, because the ‘T’ doesn’t have to connect with it. If you rewatch the video, you’ll see the original sign also doesn’t have the down stroke. I just admire her patience and tenacity to figure things out and make them work. Wow. Don’t think I could do that.

It needs primer paint before the chalkboard paint. This way it won't peel off.
