Old Dresser Turned Coffee Bar

First of all, I hope you all have had amazing weeks! This week (or should I say weeks) have been a little challenging with this particular DIY project. It wasn't that it was really "hard" just challenging. But overall I'm super happy with how this dresser makeover turned out.

Great video, you could have just posted a video of the final painting, hardware transformation and coffee bar area. Instead, posting what you went through, mistakes, and that you didn't give up, shows us that you are only human. You didn't try and post only perfect videos. I have great respect for that. I also just found you on you tube and subscribed. I realize you had your share of problems, but we all make mistakes and learn from them, at least I do. I think your project turned out perfect and where you have it sitting in front of the window makes it even more beautiful, with all the other things you added to it. I wish I had room in my kitchen for a coffee bar, but it's too small, there's no place for one. I found a small roll around bar at Ballard's which I could use for one, but it's very expensive. Maybe I can find something small I can re-do, I'll keep in mind how you did yours. It is just quaint and beautiful. Keep up your good work. Linda, from Texas.

You can thin down the chalk paint by adding water. This helps with the streaks. Good job on the dresser. I feel your pain. I had a few humdingers but the end result kept me from smashing them with a hammer.😃

Just want to say that I love how real you are in your vids. I had a similar problem with latex paint when painting my hallway. I'd taped off the trim to protect it, and when I went to peel it off HUGE chunks of latex paint came off with it. I legitimately cried. lol. Screw latex paint.

Always use a box cutter and slice along the tape. Also if you are going over a paint with a sheen either sand or use a product to roughen the walls.

Love this project,it is the same dresser I had as a little girl and I redid for my daughter.So now it has a second life .May I offer a little advice? If the drawers begin to make it more difficult to open and close,wipe a small amount of paste wax on the wooden strip that the drawers line up on and you should not have any more problems with drawers sticking.Thanks for the great ideas!

A lot of older furniture has a formica top. You would about have to use a kitchen counter top refinishing kit on that....I wish they still used it as much. That stuff is tuff!

Next time u should try 123 primer by Zinsser first, then the latex paint. It's water-based and adheres to everything. That's another reason why you see so many people using chalk paint cause it's the best when painting over anything. I want a coffee bar too, and urs is very inspiring. Thanks for sharing girlfriend!

Also a word from the wise, use OIL BASED PAINT (enamel) for furniture, especially if you want it to last and have no brush strokes. Just be sure to read the directions on the can. I recommend Ben Moore. Good luck with any future projects!
