It looks like an environmental nightmare: Dumping old subway cars to rust away on the ocean floor. But the MTA says it creates new marine ecosystems. Read more at www.onearth.org/multimedia/vid...

I recall when the R44 were first put into service. The were so modern and state of the art. Amazing that the R32 may outlast it in service.

Absolute total waste all for the sake of consumption.

Creating artificial reef is just an excuse for inconsiderately dumping the trains into the ocean. All that matters to them, the MTA management is to save cost while getting rid of their used cars.

Mjglazier77, I won't fish near those ugly objects. If people really care about marine life, just spend money to protect natural reef. Did you think what will happen to the ocean if just 1/10 of the metro companies around the world choose to dump their retired cars into the sea? Yuck, its an ugly disaster, no fun at all.

20 sets of older ancient subway cars on the A and B divisions could have been saved for the emergency uses and after over a $100,000 to $600.000 overhaul per car to rebuild is a waste of money for water reefs!
@boejiden58516 жыл бұрын
I know this isn't negative towards the ecosystems, but can't they just title the cars as scrap and sell them to Japan?
@donovanf56857 жыл бұрын
Um here's a question. Why would the mta throw old subways away to the ocean when they could of rebuilt them that way they can last longer? I know it cheap but just want to know why. Didn't the mta know they could save money by doing that?
