I grew up on that track in the 60's & 70's. I was there on it last day open. Evan, seeing it the way it looks now, brings back some fun memories.

Thanks for the great memories with the flyover. I ran ET and RTE (I paid a dual fee to run both) at Oswego every weekend of the season from 69, when I turned 16 through 71 when I went away to ASU (Tempe, Az) to get my degree. I ran a 350 Chevy, Tunnel Ram 660's, 5:38 gears (needed 5:57's but they didn't make them for that rear end at the time) in a primered 67 Corvette, no money for paint just SPEED!! I ran 11:60's in 69. The last time I was home in 2001 I drove out to Oswego and on to the track with the Hertz Cadillac LOL. You could still see the burnout boxes marked and the red starting line. It was sad but really brought back memories.

Randy M Thanks for sharing the memories. I was too young in the 70"s to know what it was, but I remember hearing the roar of the cars when going by on Rt.34 before they closed it.

Love the video, and that someone cared to make this video and do the flyover! This is Really hard to watch, to see what's become of this nearly sacred ground on which SO Many memories remain fixed in the minds of so many.

Thanks so much for this! Better than anything out there getting a 100M views. If they only knew....but then again would they have the guts being at the track like we were.....no they wouldn't

I see they finally solved that dust problem in the pits.

This is very sad to see. We had such fun there; no hearing protection, no sunscreen. Came home deaf and sunburned every time.

My former boss lives in Gates Creek West right north of the raceway. It's literally un their backyard. They go hunting back there alot and I believe they ride dirt bikes. Never knew what it was until now. I wish it was still open.

Where exactly is this? I've lived here for 10 years and still don't know where it is
@dvanduser8 жыл бұрын
+zackattack0822 Northwest corner of Rt. 34 and Orchard in Oswego. About 500 yards from Orchard and runs parallel with it. Easy to see if you use Google maps and switch to satellite imagery. The road near the beginning of the video where the camera turns around to start going down the dragstrip is Rt.34 and the road to the far right when flying down the dragstrip is Orchard.

+dvanduser now I see it. It took a few minutes for me to find it. I'll have to go check it out
@zackattack08228 жыл бұрын
+dvanduser is it still drivable? Or are the trees blocking most of the road?
@dvanduser8 жыл бұрын
+zackattack0822 I don't think it is accessible by car. Might be able to walk it though. Especially from the North end by the homes.
@Userqwerty3498 жыл бұрын
No Trespassing For Any Reason signs posted at the north end. I wonder if the homeowners at the north end know about Arnie Beswicks funny car running through what is now their yards with the chute out?

It's to bad it had to close. It was a fun place to go and watch local hot rods.

@@dvanduser Sounds great Duane, it'll be a part of a newly installed permanent exhibit at the Little White School Museum in Oswego. The drag raceway interactive will feature a touchscreen with a history video an image gallery and a drag race simulator. it should open in mid march. Thanks Lance
