You need to try the Maximus brown ale mate. It's the stronger version of double maxim and it's bloody lovely. Keep up the good work.

Yes, heard of it mate but just can't get it down here. I was lucky to get hold of a pint of Double Maxim and really enjoyed it.

Both tasty beers, and I agree 💯%. 1698 is more fully bodied, but the glucose syrup puts me off. Although, I like it. Old Peculier is a little easier drinking, on the 'Mild' side in comparison. Cheers for the nod though, Bruv. 👍

Yep, I do see the smoothness of OP being a deciding factor for some. They're both great beers though, it has to be said.

1698 is my favourite bottled beer...superb...they come clean with 'glucose syrup' on the label...I don't give a fuck about that here because it's just a very, very, feint touch...perfect beer. Unfortunately my local, the Fleur de Lys in East Hagbourne, no longer does Old Peculiar on cask which was to my taste , and still is of course , heaven in a glass. I'm biased because 1698 in bottle is a lot cheaper than the OP was on cask in the FDL. Nowadays I have to put up with perfectly kept Taylor Landlord down the FDL. Could be worse...

I agree. I do like 1698 and our local Lidl used to sell it for £1.40 a bottle at one point.

Good head to head both excellent beers. Now I do get Liquorice on cask OP (pontefract cakes are yorkshire) so a true local beer for me. Fortunately on the IOM we abide by the 1874 iom pure beer act. (Basically same as germany) Only recently fruit such as blackberry have been allowed and they have to be fresh. But no false additives or adjuncts like in these so called craft Beers. Both are top top breweries Theakson n Shepherd Neame👍🍺

I'd never heard of the Manx Pure Beer Act until recently. They do allow sugar so would glucose be allowed or is it strictly just invert sugar?

Both great Beers,1698 is a bigger beer with more character ,old peculiar is a little bit overrated in my opinion sorry.another great video as always both interesting and honest,and great entertainment
