The rise of the textile industries in Dundee brought with it an expansion of supporting industries, notably of the whaling, maritime and shipbuilding industries and extensive development of the waterfront area started in 1815 to cope with increased demand for port capacity. At its height, 200 ships per year were built there, including Robert Falcon Scott's Antarctic research vessel, the RRS Discovery. While the city's economy was dominated by the jute industry, it also became known for smaller industries. Most notable among these were James Keiller's and Sons, established in 1795, which pioneered commercial marmalade production and the publishing firm DC Thomson, which was founded in the city in 1905. Dundee was said to be built on the three Js': Jute, Jam and Journalism. Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day.

This is an absolute awesome video!! Is this the old world before us!! The architecture is just to good!! Beautiful buildings that’ll never be made to that standard again!! Full of people that were alive before the dumbing down of society!! Full of possible mud floods and ancient tech. These old cities are wonderful to see before they knock them down for tall cube buildings Thanks for posting this video

My mum mentioned dundee tram was great than bus as usual go to school.. this picture look great than this year... amazing of old dundee..

Many of these fine photos predate my time in Dundee from 1939 to approximately 1960, but others are very familiar. I lived my early years centrally in the Seagate above what was a tea bond during WW2, so central Dundee was my home at that time. I congratulate you on the quality of the photographs.
