Here's the one issue we learned. When shang was able to get the crown. Lui kang came from his original timeline to the timeline When shang was victorious in getting The Crown. Which means that lui kang is safe from any mix up should his version fail. Meaning that there is a fail-safe.

The reason why people hate Alternate Universe and time travel events is due to the simple fact it's an easy copout for lazy writing and bad story plots. This is just one of many examples as to WHY they are well travelled story plots. The power of alternate universes and timelines is that it opens up the gate to tell as many stories as one desires, explore different possibilities. The biggest weakness to one's writing and plot is restriction. The more you can keep your options open, the better you can tell a story. Because if you write yourself into a corner with a solid end to a full story, you have only the dreaded Reboot and Legacy Sequel plot options; which never turn out well for community popularity.
