The Aiki Dojo 2 Minute Technique - Old School Aikido Kuzushi
Ken Watanabe Sensei, Aikido 6th Dan, Iaido 5th Dan explains the basics of old school Aikido kuzushi (崩し) techniques. Kuzushi means “to unbalance.” In the past, most people’s timing, spacing or kokyu weren’t as developed as they are today. Thus, a practitioner needed to mechanically break the opponent’s balance or kuzushi. This kuzushi was obtained by manipulating one of the joints in the arm in order to create an opening to do a throw, joint lock or pin. In this video, Watanabe Sensei touches on the basics of old school kuzushi and demonstrates a few different techniques.
