The Aiki Dojo 2 Minute Technique - Kata-tori/Shoulder Grab
David Ito Sensei, Aikido 5th Dan demonstrates the basics of Kata-tori (肩取り) or “single-sided shoulder grab” in Aikido. Kata-tori is one of the basic attacks. Initially kata-tori is done statically so that the beginner can learn how to negotiate a strong immobilizing attack and test their composure. With time and experience, a student learns to use the strength of the attack and transfer it into the defensive technique.
