I train muay Thai and I watch your videos to try and improve my boxing and get ideas but the one of the things you said that really resonated with me was how our blinking can come back. There are days I am on POINT with defense and it’s because my eyes are locked and not blinking while I move around, and there are also days when I am blinking like crazy. Those are the sessions that frustrate me the most as I try to be big on having 2-3 defensive responses for different strikes.

I've experienced the same thing. Perhaps have someone throw some shots at you when you warm up to help ensure you're out of it before your actual sparring starts. I've even done that with guys before a fight, thrown punches at them to Help them make sure that is away before their fight starts

Thanks! There is some truth to that. At the end of the day you can be a crazy aggressive fighter and just outlands and out punch but if you are a crazy defensive fighter, but don't punch or land enough you don't win. Let me know if there's anything you want me to make a video about. Love, any and all ideas!

@@coachKeithKeppner thanks! I do have a question coach. What are your thoughts on Not stepping with the front foot or stepping with both feet when throwing the jab… when is the best time to use the stationary jab or do you recommend not using it ?
@coachKeithKeppner7 ай бұрын
@@KINGKING-hh2bc Great question, for your first 10 to 20 fights. I strongly believe you need to learn how to step the jab with both feet and do it because they'll be a big limitation if you don't, particularly if you're anywhere near normal anatomy and not just some freak 6'7 guy that fights at 135 lb lol. Now a throwaway jab would be a jab that you use as a blinder or controller to keep or establish range and in that situation it would not make sense to step with it. Therefore, it's not something I spend a ton of time teaching because throwing a jab without moving is much less complex

So I’m only 6 minutes in and I have to say the idea of active hand defense as a base over athletic footwork movements reminds me so much of Benavidez vs plant! plant had the more athletic movements that would in some way achieve angles and do more in early rounds, but as rounds go on it’s hard to maintain that! Whereas David’s high guard allowed him to put forward pressure against plant who was even throwing some pretty damn good combos into round 11. So basically throughout the fight plant has to do A LOT to stay safe, whereas David didn’t have to work as hard. Not making the case there’s ever truly a “better” but you are right about as guys level up they HAVE to stick with what got them there. Even in his fight against Canelo I felt whenever Canelo got plant in tight it just seemed like plant had issues where as Ryder went toe to toe with the champ in Mexico and really was never even that far out of distance. VERY interesting point and perspective you made there.

Actually the peekboo style is the most effective style for the smaller inside fighter but it does lack versatility. it should include more catching and parrying as well as more riing movement off the the back foot to lure an opponent into a shot instead always coming foward can be taxing and predictable i always felt like inside fighters are the most neglected when it comes to being taught versatility in they're styles even joe Frazier lacked ring movement fighting off the back foot because he was taught to walk down all his opponents im not saying it doesn't work but the higher you go in levels you wanna have back foot movement to your arsenal to change up your patterns. Sweet pea is a good example.
@coachKeithKeppner7 ай бұрын
I'll definitely hear what you're saying, you have to understand that in the beginning you're saying peekaboo style is the most effective style for a short fighter, but then you're also saying that the most effective style for a short fighter would be a combination of styles that is good boxing. I hope you get what I'm saying

Great vid coach. Do you have any videos on overall strategies, for example coming from a kickboxing background I sometimes like to take a southpaw stance, use the lead hand to try and shut down their jab then fire rear hands down the middle, if they get too focused on blocking the rear hand up the middle I can attack with the left kick round their guard. Obviously this doesn't cover all the eventualities that can happen in a fight but it's a decent basic flowchart to work from, wondering if you have videos on similar strategies for different kinds of boxers.

Yeah not completely. I touch on it. I have a rough draft book I'm working on with that covered in depth, but might do something related to that.
