Fantastic long thorough videos that are making light bulbs go off even though I've already been boxing 16 years.

I have zero problem with clinch fighting in boxing and I enjoy watching it. It's one of the remaining tactics from a bygone era in boxing. The clinch game even today isn't as a prevalent as the Jack Johnson, Joe Gans, Sam Langford era.
@coachKeithKeppner6 ай бұрын
That's great that you do! So to each their own and you are right that boxing had more wrestling tactics including throwing someone down which counted as a knockdown in the 1800 and then what we saw with the gentlemen you listed is the leftover of that. They have refined the rules over time to lead us to where we are. To support your point, fighters now don't work out of the clinch much and wait of the ref to break them and that is a bad thing. I appreciate your comment because I went through and revisited a Johnson vs Burns (Been years since I watched it) and Tommy shuts himself down sooo much with holding and the "clinch" makes the fight less thrilling then a good heavyw fight from the past 40 years. And if you contrast that with Chavez sr fights where they are checked on holding, often, it makes for a much more clock burning and time wasting pace of a fight. I see you enjoy a variety of MA's from your posts and that's awesome. As you know in Muay Thai there are different rules with that. You may have a fight with clinch and knees, no clinch etc. Boxing is a sport where holding is generally not allowed and not supposed to be aloud even though it happens by accident and they let it slide. The amateur now though are pretty strict. But again it's all art and sport so we all have our things we like, brother!

Whether they like it or not clinching is actually a part of the game and has been for a long time. I enjoy it. Excessive clinching however is against the rules
@coachKeithKeppner5 ай бұрын
@@soul2soul4 thanks for your comment. it is the refs discretion in pros and is not allowed at all in amateurs. And all fighters, to your point, need to learn about it and how to deal with it as I explain in the video.

@@coachKeithKeppner I will say the ART in clinching feels forgotten nowadays. Not clinching for the sake of it as a quick escape from being off balance or hurt, but feinting a clinch to open up your opponent, or soft clinching used in the pocket by both fighters, etc. When im in fighting and im angled off to one side, sometimes ill softly clinch and immediately pullback 1,2 and a LOT of sparring partners were caught off guard. While im here, just wanna say your videos are a god send for my self-taught journey. Your explanation of power and body rotation, and intricate shit like the weight of your head adding extra force, all that is G O L D my man so thank you.

@@coachKeithKeppner Hey, by the way, a question, what is your opinion on the cross guard?
@coachKeithKeppner4 ай бұрын
@@BaldianOfIbelin Great question. It is best to not think in "guards" but think in terms of set ups and defense moves. I believe it isn't helpful to think of it like a BJJ person would with positions like full mount, side control, in a guard which is how I see the internet Boxing community think of it too much. Most good fighters flow between different blocks and head movement that look like they are doing this guard and that guard but trust me they aren't thinking of it like that at all.
@coachKeithKeppner4 ай бұрын
@@BaldianOfIbelin .... now that arm position and defensive maneuver I see generally work better for bigger guys that are a little slower and are more stationary. But again don't let it be an outfit that you put on, but something you might fall into when you lead is low and you catch some straights shots. Make sense?

@coachKeithKeppner3 ай бұрын
Check out the end of the how to fight tall video. Also keeping the bodywork so it's hard exit and being in and in mid range to make it hard for them to smoother turn or grab and turn

Hey what do you think the best guard is for a shorter boxer . I spar this guy who is taller and stronger and he punches through my guard
@coachKeithKeppner4 ай бұрын
Definitely a topic for a video!!! The guard is not the answer or the problem in my professional opinion. Check out my defense video, build up those skills and you'll be good!
