I get called “old school” all the time just because I’m 22 and recently bought 10 acres in the mountains to live in a wooden cabin that I built myself next to a river. I get it, for a young person it is unusual to live this way, especially these days. But it is the healthiest lifestyle in every single way in my humble opinion.

You and I are the same age, Mr Bull-Hansen. Here's what I say to anyone who says we're living in the past: we're living ON the past because we're living on the literal firmament of history. Our soil and everything that grows within is a record of the past. It provides life to everything standing on that firmament. Every living thing which lumbers into the future is dependent upon the firmament on which it stands, so it is solely dependent upon the past.

Past is everything, history is so important. We learn from the past, we learn from history, it's the best way of learning, to study the past. That's why I've always believed that libraries should be beautiful, well-organized and big, like palaces. Because they are palaces; palaces of wisdom, of learning, of past and history. History is important, because without it, we are nothing. Just lost souls in endless space. The past gives life to that space, it teaches us about ourselves. Maybe a little preachy, but that's what I believe, anyway. Other than that, no matter what you talk about, it's always nice to spend some time with you in the woods.

It must be difficult for some people to understand. When I first moved into the woods in my cabin, I had no electricity, and I'll be honest, I loved it. I had to re adjust my life to the season and the hours of light, I had to get in step with nature instead of overcoming it with technology. But, my wife requires the basic requirements of what is seen as civilisation, so electricity was installed with a solar system.. cheers for that video.

You know Brother Bjorn, when I tune into you channel it isn’t just about community but more about Family. It’s like a Big Family, as it should be. Living in the past? It’s about our Ancestors, the Elders. There used to be boards of elders, of Grandmothers and Grandfathers, The Wise Ones. Greatly respected and listened to. The loss of respect for our Elders is the very thing that got many of our cultures in trouble today. Living in the past? Indeed! I haven’t lost that respect as I know you have not. Respect for our Ancient Mother Earth is very important! As the Native American song I learned years ago says, The Earth Is Our Mother and We Must Take Care Of Her. And indeed we must! You Respect, take care and Love her and this is clear. You are like the Grandfathers, with integrity, fairness, wisdom and Love for Nature. You realize we all are Nature. And you make us feel the One Human Family we all are. The old ways are natural things, things of the Earth. Not the past but the Wisdom gained by the Elders and taught to us by them, if we listened. You have Brother! Kind Thanks and Many Blessings with Love, Light, Peace and Joy of Being! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania

You are absolutely correct, in your statement that the old ways are often better. So much knowledge and skills that our grandparents and greatgrandparents had, has been lost to modern technology. I am grateful that my father took the time to teach me some of the old ways of his fathers' ancestors, two of the indigenous tribes of North America, and most of northern Europe. My mothers' ancestry was Swedish/Norwegian. So you are part of my ancestry also. I camped as a child and young man, with WW2 surplus items - heavy canvas pup tents and canvas backpacks. But the last time that I was camping, it was in a 36 foot long travel trailer, hooked up to running water and electricity! But we were in a spot where there was no internet or phone service - I enjoyed that immensely. We could only get 2 channels on the TV, and one of them was a church channel. I did a lot of reading in the 5 years that we owned that TT, which was stationed at a rustic campground (gravel roads, no lighting, , lots of trees and wildlife! I turned 79 a month ago - what I would give to be 50 again!

Two points in my lifetime changed me, when I reached 25 years old, and when I reached 50 years old. At each point I changed direction within my thoughts and actions, and for the better I think. I'm now 60 years old, and am starting to change yet again, and I'm so happy about it, I've never been so focused on my life direction, and thoughts. At last I've reached a wonderful point of clarity.

Bjorn my brother happy birthday! 50 times around the sun is a privilege not given to everyone. I to will be making my 50th trip around the sun this November. I also don't know how I feel about it but it is what it is. I'm grateful for this life and all the amazing experiences I have been blessed with. I have many children and grandchildren and I'm a custom knife maker and blacksmith I am definitely leaving behind a long lived legacy. To me that's the most important thing we can do in our lifetime. Knowing that possibly a hundred years after I'm dead someone will be looking at one of the knives I've made and wondering what kind of person I was. That's real immortality. Having your name mentioned long after your dead. Anyway many great blessings to you Bjorn and I hope your 50th year of life on this planet is the best. Thank you for always giving us great content. Skål!!

I’ve come back to this video and your other videos several times already and will again I’m sure. They’re extraordinary. As an aging American; as a man who last month turned 70; as a person who sees all around him a deranged world ever embracing its own insanity, this video reignites and invigorates my lost kinship with my Scandinavian brothers and sisters. It sometimes inspires me to face another day. Your videos are what I’ve needed, what I cling to, what breathes fire back into a soul that far too often has become an icy wilderness. When the isolation of my philosophies overwhelms me, I come back to your videos and I know the rhapsody of my Occidental family is still there - still alive, somewhere. …And I thank you Bjorn for it.

You're right about taking a step back from all the madness. Our brains weren't made for such information overload, and at some point you just have to unplug from it all to take a deep breath.

I remember from, I forget if it was from my Environmental Citizenship class or long ago but, “if you don’t think you are a part of nature than look at the veins in your forearms, they form a shape of a tree.”

Good Day Bjorn, I really enjoyed your sharings, and getting to hang out virtually. In a nature refuge with you in the community. I'm looking forward virtually in hanging out in your neck of the woods. Simple times create the best of times. This is my mantra... Stay safe and present...

Bjorn, you do not live in the past, you are connected to your past and bring it into your now. Too many people just sit around making comments and do not understand you. You're awesome~

I love roughing it with vintage gear, it makes going out with full modern kit feel like a five star hotel. Happy birthday!

I just got back from the forest myself, went out and tried my new Tent in a thunderstorm, Skinned some game to keep myself practicing just in case, fished out on the lake. In my country (Canada) we’ve got more forest, tundra and mountain than we have developed land so I feel very good about being able to vanish if I want to. I believe everyone should, it’s cleansing. Good for the soul. Happy birthday brother!🍁♥️

Happy birthday 🎂. I remember 50 fondly. "Old school" hmm... I think of it as "simple", pared down. The "almost no gear" life.

thank you for sharing a moment to remind us to slow down. too many times moments like these are stolen from us by how busy the world expects us to be. this is not living in the past, it is living in the present free of those things that would ensnare us.
