The box that rocks! Loved those things. Man this channel bring backs my youth. From 1991-2002 car audio was my life. Won many many competitions. Won my region in IASCA pro 301-600 every year for maybe 7 straight years. Rockford, us amps, mtx, JL audio, linear power, eclipse, pioneer super tuner head units! I lived a breathed all this old school stuff. Love this channel big D my spl vehicle in 1999 was a 1984 Chevy Astro van with 12 mtx black gold 15’s and 6 crunch 600’s. Only competed spl that year. Honestly didn’t do so good. 157’s was all I consistently got. My sound q vehicle changed every year. Since I was dealer all my equipment was free or heavily discounted, so in the off season I did a new install every year. My favorite sound q vehicle I ever did was for 1999 world finals. Eclipse 5303 head unit. MB quart 3 way component up front. 8’s in doors, 6.5 and tweeters in kick panels. Single solobaric 12, the first year of square ones, and 2 USA-300 from us amps. Placed 6th that year at finals. One place away from being on stage.

Makes me wish I took more pics back in the day. Bieng a teen in the mid 90's was the golden age of car audio. JL audio, Orion, pioneer, eclipse, alpine. Soundstrean, Lanzar, PPI, Cerwin Vega, and Pyle drivers, LOL! I can't name them all. God I wish I could go back to those days and make better choices in life in general, but it was a good time. I do have one video on my channel showing some old school Orion xtr subs I blew and replaced with kicker CVX'S, which are awesome. The kicker CVX is the same as the square kicker solobaric L7. Same voice coil, and motor, just round instead of square, and they slam with better clarity, but a bit less output than the square design. Thanks for the old school video, I enjoyed it. This really took me back and made me reminisce.

I think we may see a resurgence with events like RADwood but OEMs learned from this era and incorporated the best designs into factory systems negating the need for upgrades. We now have amazing factory speaker placement, multi-channel outboard amps, time alignment, crossovers, and integration with devices we didn't even know were possible in 1995. I was about to rip out the stereo in my 2015 Wrangler until I realized it just needed a better head unit. Alpine already gave me a 45 watt x 12 amp in the dash with EQ and some amazing sounding speakers. Obviously a single subwoofer with 4 voice coils getting only 180 watts isn't anything to write home about, but I value my cargo space too much these days. However, for the 1985 Toyota MR2 we picked up a few years ago, I'm piecing together a nice vintage setup that should turn heads and bring back memories at car shows.

My first system was all new old stock parts in my first car, a Honda Civic. MB Quart 100 x 4 amp, 6 1/4"Jamo factory speakers w/ fiberglass cones, and Jamo 1" soft dome tweeters. Each driver was only 5 bucks, so I bought two tweeters per woofer and made a bridge out of duct tape and epoxy above each woofer to hold the two tweeters like some crazy dual coaxial shit. No crossover on the woofers, running em' full range, with the tweeters using a 1st order at 5k. It actually rocked hard and sounded great. At some point I even took my circa 2002 12" MTX home theater sub and put it in my trunk running on an inverter. So loud in the back seat it gave my friends headaches hahaha. Those were the days. My system sounds much better now and is cleaner, but nothing like those old bootlegin sound days.

Man this video brought back some good and not so good memories! The Tundra with the C.V. strokers in it mainly did it. Highschool saved up for the entire time there got a Toyota mini truck with a snugtop on it and I shoved 4 18" strokers in the bed with a full cut through. Brought it to a shop that no longer exists so the name is not important, to get it dialed in and few little things I wasnt sure if i did correctly or not. Short story long when I came to pick up my truck few days later, I was informed that there was a break in and a bunch of their inventory was missing along with my truck! The entire truck! It was never recovered and they never found who did it either. The shop was blamed but never charged with anything because of course it looked rather fishy that only a few things of theirs were gone and my truck and same night they had an issue with the cameras there.....my insurance covered the truck and only the truck but the shop owner, who didn't have any insurance by the way, he gave me a grand cash few weeks later. So I wasn't sure if that was him being actually sorry or just a way to make it seem like he wasnt involved. Never found out what actually happened but the moral of my telling this story is if you have a system that costs ten times what you paid for the vehicle it is in, insure it!!!! Peace of mind, a paper trail that stands up in court if you were to find yourself there for whatever reason, and you just never know who is actually good people or not unfortunately. The saddest thing of all was I never got to actually listen to it due to I didn't install the main fuses until I had the "professionals" look it over to be sure it wouldn't self destruct once I did install them. Ain't that some shit. I hope whoever ended up with all my stuff enjoyed it as much as I imagine I would have!! Motherf@€[{£rs!!
