Thank you Dave - absolutely love you flipping through these old magazines. That Dynaflite mustang review brought back memories. It was one of the first kits I built - about 8 years before I learned how to fly (never did fly it, but I still have the wing. Not sure what happened to the rest - that was a long time ago).

Used to love RCM. Tried to get into the hobby in ‘88 myself. Didn’t go to well for various reasons. Came back around 2002. Was hot and heavy for a while but other life commitments have taken precedence. I still have tons of stuff. Hopefully some time will get freed up. I actually built the Aerostar from a kit.

Outstanding Dave!! A buddy paid me to build his ace biplane kit with an fs-91 before he went off to Paris Island in 1997 When he got back from basic he didn't give a shi!t about rc but he took the plane anyway. Far as I know it never flew. Point is those kits were definitely made for the four stroke.

I have a Top Flite Grumman F8F Bearcat from that era, it flies very well and looks really cool 😎

Awesome, loved the flip through! I thought it was interesting that they showed more cars and boats as well. Not sure if other issues of RCM contained much on that or not.

Hi Alex I have the pheaton ll ,how did you find the build ?? I'm yet to start mine only got it this year it is the Lazer cut version too I plan on using a os fs 70 ,do you think that would suit any come back appreciated 🤙
@dmrcflyr214 күн бұрын
Nathan, the OS FS70 Surpass is right in the middle of the suggested power range for the Phaeton II at .60-.91 four stroke. Your engine will be fine. Interestingly Balsa USA is only 109 miles from my location.

easy build for a modeller who has built before i think the 70 would be marginal this is my second phaeton and i flew the first one a saito 100flew well plenty of power
@AlexMacKenzie-n9r12 күн бұрын
you could use a dle 20 my mate has one and it goes very well he says mine sounds better with the 120 but i use a lot more fuel than he does

I had a bluebird 45 that i sold to a good friend, it was brand new and is one of the few 2 stroke engines with AAC construction, with a black cyl head that makes it look something like a rossi 45 but lighter in weight, even lighter than OS 46 SF.

Check out the Wayback Machine and look up tower hobbies. I think it goes as far back as the early 2000’s. It’s an actual snapshot of the webpage year by year. Very interesting to see the prices back then! 😳

If you are interested in a Top Flight Kit look to Carolina Custom Kits in South Carolina. You will need to be patient because of reports i have read it may take a while if what you want is not in stock. May take 3-6 months before you receive it, but well worth it. Updated plans and construction methods. Kinda expensive in the $500-700 range. John from Hayden, Idaho

I would NEVER pay that kind of money for an airplane kit.
