That sterling shovel is from the California Midwinter International Exposition of 1894. They broke ground on August 24,1893 on the Music Concourse. No idea how it wound up in Illinois.

Great finds! Hey there is another group of guys here on the KZbins i believe they are called the "Hoover boys" I dunno if youve ever heard of them or not...They do what you do only they find stuff thats a lot older than what comes outta the midwest. Check em out 🏴‍☠🍀

That Grand Army of the Republic pic is an awesome find! I found a medallion from them once and did some research. I found that these were only issued to CW veterans, and the metal came from melting down Confederate cannons. Also laughing really hard with you mocking the Hoover Boys!! The shovel really piqued my interest as well. I know the Columbia Exebition in Chicago was running under that date, but there was no groundbreaking. East coast had a hurricane running up the coast hitting NYC on the 24th. The only other mention I can readily find is the Midwinter Fair groundbreaking on that date in San Francisco.

I like how you have no brand. It tends to corrupt other channels as your parody demonstrates. The HB used to be fun to watch, now they seem contrived for views only - or maybe there is nothing original anymore and they are bored yet want the money stream to continue. Everything has a cycle.
