Exactly. Something a working man, and his kids could build on a budget, unlike these”street outlaw cars, which are basically a pro stock/pro mod car.

This was a different time altogether. Now with the internet and the availability of global production, almost everything is available to anyone who wants it. When these cars were racing, there was a sense of mystery and good deal of experimentation. Without the electronics, contemporary technology, and decades of experience, winning favored an entirely different skill and mindset. It wasn't (always) just about who had the most money.

This brings back so many memories of my youth. Back in the day in the early 1970s at Palm Beach International Speedway they had "run what you brung" night. You wore a helmet and you signed a waiver. You could race. It was freaking awesome! My Dad ran stock cars out of the Hollywood Hallandale area in the late 1950s early 60s. He and his friend Fritz ran a Henry J and and Oldsmobile. He did the dirt track and the figure eights. I like the drag strip. Thanks for sharing.

🔴♥️🇺🇸♥️👍 my best drag racing experience, was in a 1957 Chevy, 327 dual quads straight axle kit, fiberglass tilt front end, dual open headers, 5/13 pumpkin gear, and A nitrous oxide pump, I was able to turn lower 10's , the adrenaline rush was better than any Drug on the market Diamond Dave ♦️♦️♦️‼️

When life was simple 500 horse and a 4 speed 😎🇺🇸🇺🇸
@markholroyde94122 жыл бұрын
There is nothing simple about the 4 speeds in those cars LOL, Impossible to shift like that with a stock trans and a H pattern shifter, I bet they have a $20K set up in the trans, great racing but nothing stock about it .
@tomeighty2 жыл бұрын
I wonder about that too. Old original 4 speeds don't shift well in high horsepower cars.

I remember as a kid we load up in our family car (68 chevelle) and drive to the drag strip to race it. Then drive back home afterwards. My dad and mom would take turns racing it. Dad tore 2nd gear out one weekend. It was a long ride home with them. Lol

This wonderful Americana. The Original Hot Rod explosion, say 1948 to 65. Every great t memory From that super Era. As I stood watching the action, my father said something to me. He said "In a lot of other countries, no one Could do this" it's true the drags are fast and fun. But it also is the freedoms we have, which many other do not have AND someone is always trying to take away here.

I had never thought of a Studebaker Loewy coupe as a gasser until the TV show Junkyard Gold found one, less engine, so there’s no telling from what the show showed what engine had been in it. Still, one at a car show would almost certainly be the only one there.

Can someone please tell me what the small silver car was? I was thinking based on a Ferrari but not sure.....thanks.
@soqq70372 жыл бұрын
One question. Why are some of the cars lifted so much on the front? Is it to fit the larger engine? But then, it can't be because some cars haven't the oil pan sticking out.

Someone more knowledgeable may correct me, but I'm pretty sure under (applicable to certain type class) rules, the vehicle body has to be level.

Thanks for the great question, I shot this video concentrating on individual cars like this because they are so beautiful and unique that I didn't want to destroy that by zooming out to get both cars in the video frame. I wanted a full frame zoomed in kind of video to see all the great detail on these Vintage cars, they are much different than the cookie cutter kind of cars that are out today. Hope you understand and thanks for watching! Tom

Enjoy the last you'll be seeing of drag racing because the cost of oil per barrell will escalate beyond what we've seen in the past. So if you think the pump is expensive now just wait! As oil supplies dwindle and drilling spots are increasingly hard to find, sports like this will see a forced closure and it won't be long. This sport as well as all motorsport has been bombarding our ozone layer with as much fossil fuel emissions as other pollutive industries. They have fucked around and wasted a resource over how fast a car can gobble up a quarter mile! Well the party is over now and you hot rodders are just going to have to accept that! It's about time!
