Similar to Judo, joint lock technique are no longer allowed in the recent Shuai Jiao international rules. Simply not suitable for modern competition where you have multiple matches a day, and liability insurance.😂 In our club we try to respect the tradition and tech them as part of the curriculum. There are some specific and explicit exceptions around join locks to fight for grip control but not part of a throw. Also some allow pressure on joints as long as a soft contact to the join is already made and pressure is add, never impact straight up.

Excellent! Was just discussing this with a friend who is a prominent competitor yesterday, how the integration of techniques is a natural conduit for people in Judo, Jiujitsu, Sambo, Hapkido, etc because even if you don’t formally cross train, you have to be prepared for what your opponent might do to you.

Commenting before finishing video because have to leave soon so sorry if you mention this , but one thing about Shuai Jiao throws is when done correct they drive the opponent straight DOWN instead of circular for maximum impact with the ground . They would practice on sand pits instead of mats to avoid injury . As grapplers we forget how untrained people are so poorly prepared to fall. For self defense a good throw or take down can be the end of the encounter

I was training some Shuaijiao with an older friend of mine last week and I asked him about the illegal techniques I saw online. He replied that anything involving joint locks or dropping your body onto a vulnerable area would be a violation of the rules today. He clarified that in the Qing dynasty, when the Mongolian Bokh wrestlers came to compete with the imperial Shuaijiao wrestlers, the Mongolians initially had the advantage because of their size and more relaxed techniques. To counter this, the imperial wrestlers started using more of the illegal techniques to even the odds. My friend demonstrated a particularly nasty method employed by these wrestlers - immediately after a throw, the wrestlers would drop their body weight and purposefully stumble as if they lost balance, and in doing so would forcefully stomp down on the opponent’s exposed skull. Keep in mind that their shoes were heavy, reinforced and had leather soles underneath. Such techniques were eventually deemed illegal since Shuaijiao was being promoted as a sport and not a lethal martial art later on.

Shuai Jiao was developed in the ancient days of Chinese warring states. It was originally meant for armed soldiers on the battlefield who came into close contact with each other and could no longer use their weapons... The idea is to have methods of throwing your opponent down so you can finish them with a killing blow from your weapon. The key to this (and the main difference from judo) is to execute the technique without ever following your opponent to the ground... If you're on the ground with your opponent on a battlefield and you cannot separate, you're basically dead.

Nope. It didn't exist in the Warring States era. Shuai Jiao is just Mongol-Manchu reorganized and rebranded as a 3000 year old style. Trace back Shuai Jiao's history up to the Shan Pu Ying and it will lead you to either to Manchuruan or Mongolian wrestling. The whole 3000 year old myth doesn't make any sense.

The chinese communist revolution led by Mao Tsetung destroyed so much Chinese cultural arts and unarmed combative arts to make way for the new communist order. They murdered all scholars, educators, teachers, historians, artists and martial arts masters , among other victims of communist revolution in china under Mao. The few whom escaped to S.E. Asia and the Western hemisphere took some of their cultural history and knowledge with them but nothing survived the Communist Mao revolution remaining in Communist China. Wushu was created by the CCP as sport and is a good illustration of the flower without the fruit.

You sound like an idiot who doesn't know anything about Chinese martial arts, or about anything else in China. First of all - wu shu is an umbrella term which encompasses all Chinese martial arts, whether they're intended for combat/self-defence or for health and fitness. Modern 'wu shu' is a sports form which is explicitly intended for sport and for health/fitness. People like SF soldiers or others who have to use martial arts for their work practice junshi sanda, or any number of other martial arts - whether they're Chinese or not.

"Chinese" migrate/running to SEA since dynastic era, mostly from Ming supporters. Pre WW2 Chinese brought by the British and other colonials to work in their mines and estates especially in Malaya. Some of them joined Malayan Communist Party and funded by the British to establish MPAJA (Malayan People Anti-Japanese Army) Communist Army to fight against Imperial Japan. They were heroes until they rebel against the British after Japan surrender. Post WW2 Chinese who comes to SEA are mostly Chinese Communist Army in their plan to make SEA Communist region under China. They failed n their attempt. These Chinese established Kun Tao in SEA which is a derivation of various types of Kung Fu, some of it mixed with Silat and some becomes Silat throughout history.
@SoldierDrew
@SoldierDrew Жыл бұрын
@@MizanQistina Silat is a generic word for all fighting arts. And these arts all generically refered to as 'silat' include various chinese boxing hands, malay hands, indonesian hands and even colonial dutch fisticuff boxing hands (pukulan). So there is no actual thing as mixing chinese boxing with "silat". Various "silat" schools in SEA are chinese boxing. Saying "silat" in S.E.A. is like saying gungfu or karate in the western hemisphere. It's a generic all inclusive term. Kun Tao (fist way) is also a generic term for chinese boxing. It wasnt a specific style but rather a generic term for all chinese boxing in S.E.A. Westerners seeking to commercialize everything and their interweb followers began marketing silat and kuntao as two distinct individual styles. Regardless what political alliances or feelings the brits had concerning communist chinese pre & post WWII. To the chinese victims of the Communist Mao revolution, as well as to all logical, sentient, beings across the world whom study the history of communist revolutions/regimes, it's never been cool.

@@SoldierDrew There is such thing as mixing Kun Tao with Silat since Silat itself is MMA in ancient time. Origin of MA isn't linear and not one way only. There are Silat, Kun Tao, Silat-Kun Tao and Kun Tao-Silat, that is how unique SEA culture. I am Malaysian, I know my country history and culture to talk about it. 😆 British FUND the Communist in Malaya and creating Malayan Communist Army, imagine that. British want to use them against the Japan. Then the monster rebel against the British and destroy everything. It is the same thing USA did to Middle East and Afghanistan. ------------- Or maybe everything in the old days was, to put it mildly, destructive. I dare to suggest that the reason for this was a different meaning of the duel. In the olden days it was to kill or maim each other, not to win on points.
