I refurbish old and some new sewing machines and agree 100% with what you are saying. I enjoy the work it takes to clean and repair them, to me it is calming. As a retired machinist it truly amazes me the quality and craftsmanship that went into making a 100 + year old machine. Your comment on the time it takes to fully clean and service these machines is spot on . I average about 20 hrs each to fully clean disassemble inspect reassemble and test the machines. The best part is when you can find them a new home where they will be used for many more years instead of thrown on a trash pile because the tension is off and it costs more to fix than a new plastic machine. You definitely make some very good points, my living area now looks almost like yours, bravo. After I retired, I needed something to do here in the north country especially in the wintertime. One day when visiting my mother she gave me her old sewing machine knowing that no one else would not have interest. One day I got behind that old machine and Lord and behold I started to enjoy what when on inside that machine. Now my little collection numbers 8. Some I got for a song others a fist full of dollars. As far as what someone is willing to pay sometimes depends on what that person wants. The good news is; it feels great to bring some of these old beauties to life. Those vintage machines can out live us twice over.

I buy vintage machines for 50 bucks restore them and resell and collect , you are so right when you say they are beutiful machines , nothing on earth is built as well as vintage sewing machines , you say some machines will last another 50 years i say more like 150 years , your one machine alone is 121 years old and stitches just fine ...

I found that website before watching this video. I purchased a Singer AC510XXX manufactured on February 28, 1929 for $50. I got a bunch of foots, the original power cord, and even a full tube of Singer grease. I did not think it was real valuable but it reminds me of my grandmother's machine. I figure it is a keeper. I plan to clean it up and work with it on my own little projects.

I know this is late in coming, but the machine you are looking up is not a 29, when you were looking at the industrial machines, that last one is a 29, before you went to the cabinets. Now the one you were trying to find is a 27, or 127. The main difference between those two is where the bobbin winder located. If its up high on the machine its a 127, if its slmost at the base it a 27. When looking up models and serial numbers, be sure to use all of the numbers. Dome are just numbers ( all pre 1900) some start with 1 letter, some with 2 letters. The numbers can be 6 or 7 digit snd if the serial starts with a zero include it when referring to the chart. Also the dates on the chart are the dates that cwrtain blocks of serial numbers were set aside for that many model castings not actual manufacturing dates. Millions upon millions of just about all models were made with very few exceptions and even those were still made in the hundreds or thousands. I hope you dont take any of this as critism or me neing jateful, to the contrary i just want to help more people understand these great machines. Im a collector and ive been burned before about rare "still working" machines. Just trying to pass on info for everyone else. Thank you.

Though I appreciate the video I found it hard to follow. It was like you made the video in reverse. You started at the end and then got to the beginning and then went to the middle. It made it hard to follow. It didn't really answer my questions. Your thoughts were like shotgun pellets. They were all over the place. I wish you had scripted the video so it had some flow. You have a wealth of knowledge in there but it doesn't show through. I pray I don't offend you with this critique. I just felt like the information you shared was like a rollercoaster in the dark. singer made literally millions of machines per model. the only value in one would be in a pristine condition of one; the rest are easy to fix and add new decals etc so basicaly if you pay more than $10 for a machine you're dumb. stop chasing the rare model singer machine worth any money. they don't exist.
