Were going through the paces on the old Falcon! The CVF front end kit gets installed and cold air is just around the corner for the old bird.

Nice to see the bird back in the spotlight. She’s rad and the back story is even cooler. Use the lock tight sparingly. It’s messy and I don’t ever use the red. Blue for me but there are many different applications.

I should have used the blue for those! Agreed. Thanks for watching. It feels great to get back on this car, especially since it’s so close to being done

Merry Christmas buddy. I am installing a March Ultra 2 setup on my 393W for the past couple weeks. I’ll be posting my own video on that. I have both the Borgeson (Saginaw) press fit and woodruff keyway pumps. I’m having trouble with A LOT of pulley runout with the woodruff keyway as the pulley does not fit tight on the shaft. I’m fooling around with the key to get it right. Your press fit pulley should have no runout so that’s an advantage assuming you can get the pulley on there right. Note, your Saginaw PS pump will have end play of about 0.020”, so be aware when install the pulley and aligning the belt. My Powermaster alternator had very little end play, maybe 0.005”. There is nothing we can really do about end play, the belt is going to yank the pulley where it want it to be. It would be nice if your next video showed you pressing on that pulley (please, please please). I am not sure how to set up the press for the pulley and if the pump bracket needs to be already installed on the pump or not. As you mentioned, the pump pulley is so damn tight (same with my march set up). I am worried about tweaking the AL PS pump bracket if I use the bracket to react the load from the press. Regarding pulley (belt) alignment. I leveled the engine (on the stand) and used the lower harmonic balancer pulley as a vertical datum. Then, I checked the other vertical flanges of the pulleys. In many cases, small differences exist from bracket tolerances. You can fix those with your fab skills (McMaster Carr sells washer like peelable shims that are 0.002”). You will note small differences in vertical alignment which I found was due to runout (wobble) on the Alt and PS pump. You can’t “adjust” runout if its internal the component so you’re just checking to see if something is WAY off. I used a collection of levels, T-squares and straight edges to verify pulley flange alignment which, if correct, should ensure belt alignment. As you mentioned, I also used a laser projector as a hand-held straight edge. Note: You can’t use the laser as a “fixed” reference since the laser and engine would have to be on the exact same datum and I could not get that on the stand let alone in a chassis. The laser is just a hand-held straight edge. Careful replacing your broken (total bummer) Saginaw pump with the local yocals. Memory serves, you are using a rack & pinion. Verify what the rack needs for pressure and flow. In contrast, my Borgeson PS box needs pressure flow rates HIGHER than stock Saginaw (Borgeson requires 1200 - 1350psi @ 2.7 - 3.5 GPM). Borgeson rebuilds and modifies used cores to get the correct pressure and flow. Note: A brand new Made in USA Tuff Stuff Performance Saginaw style pump e.g., 6164B is slightly lower than Borgeson but still 1200 PSI rated @ 2.9-3.1 GPM. Summit Racing has these typically in stock if you need “specific” pressure/flow. If interested, go to the Tuff Stuff Performance website where they have dozens of different Saginaw pumps. I’m not above begging to see how to press that pulley on!!! Nice work buddy. Hope the kids are having a good Christmas. 🌲☝👍✌🌲

Excellent post from you, as always! Thanks for all the great info! I can do a quick short on how I pressed the pulley on. There is a job specific tool for it. It threads into the pump and has external threads to push an arbor down and press the pulley in. The pulley went in the second pump just fine. It was .002 UNDER the first pump shaft and .001 on the second pump that I bought. It went on the second pump a lot nicer. Probably from being opened up after being pressed on the first pump. For the pump, I just got the parts store special. I’m not sure what the rack requires. I’ll definitely look into that! Merry Christmas to you guys as well!

COOLNESS brother. Yeah, I tried the hand-held arbor type tool last night. Got the pulley on half way and then it refused to budge anymore (too much swearing on Christmas Eve). Went back to trying to make my woodruff key style work. @@rdspeedfab

@@BlueOvalEdge yeah I hear you. I had to use the tool with an impact to get it in. I think heating the pulley would have been the smart way. I looked at it for a while and couldn’t find a smart safe way to set it up in the shop press. I just didn’t feel good about pressing against the casting (as I found out 🤣)

Awesome car. What underdash evaporator did you use? You completely removed your old heater box?
@rdspeedfab6 ай бұрын
Yes sir, completely removed the factory heater box. I purchased a kit from old air products.

Thanks. Looking to see which one would fit my 63 sprint. They have several versions to pick from.

Yeah they have a lot.

You give me anxiety not having covers over your fenders when you work on the car😮 especially putting tools on them ..

You know…. I should be more careful about that lol. All these years of not having good paint on cars I guess!

Looks great. Like your work man. Question, what pedals are you running? Brake and clutch.
@rdspeedfab9 ай бұрын
I made the pedals. Nothing super fancy. Just aluminum with my logo engraved in them, then bolted to the factory pedals
