Hi! This cantation is polytonic, but original Old Slavonic chants were monotonic, like Byzantine and Gregorian. This is probably an 18th or 19th century adaptation.
@TwIsTeDxGuArDx5 жыл бұрын
I dont know if you are able to change the title but the first part of the lyrics are actually psalm 141
@Facconti4 жыл бұрын
@@TwIsTeDxGuArDx It is in fact psalm 140 according to the Septuagint numeration. The discrepancy with your Bible is that what in the Septuagint is accounted as Psalm 9, in the Masoretic text is divided as Psalms 9 and 10, causing that from then onwards there be a desynchronization and the Septuagint's always being one chapter behind up until Psalms 146 and 147, which are accounted as one, 147, in the Masoretic, resulting in both versions being together again. The Latin Vulgate also follows the Greek numbering of the Psalms. Protestant Bibles follow (always, I think, but I'm not sure) the Masoretic numbering.

As a Polish Catholic, I have to say that I find Russian hymns the most beautiful when it comes to Orthodox music. Sorry, my Byzantine friends. I don't say this just because I'm Slavic, but I think it's because there's something melancholic about Russian Orthodox music that resonates with a Polish and a Catholic soul.
@lordjesuschristhavemercyon32514 жыл бұрын
I really like Russian Church music too!
@wilhufftarkin85434 жыл бұрын
@Freedom and Art I know exactly what you mean. Greek Orthodox chants are beautiful, too, but they aren't as... touching. I can't quite put it into words, but they in a way sound more cold and distant. Russian chants are warm and comforting and they pierce you straight into the heart. There's something angelic about them.
@naidesu-et9jh4 жыл бұрын
@@wilhufftarkin8543 That's because Russian chants borrow elements from western choir music such as complex chords and polyphony while Byzantine chants are purely eastern.
