I believe you were looking at Success Pond, not Speck. You can't see Speck Pond; it's very nearby, down off the side of Old Speck in the direction of Mahoosuc Arm. Probably straight ahead at the 9:12 mark. Nice hike; makes me want to go back there again!

+rje49 This is why I don't usual name things. LOL Actually a guy was on the summit and pointed the pond out to his girlfriend as Speck Pond, so I thought I was save. Curses! LOL

Love the zanny music guys, LOL. What a beautiful forest! I'm really starting to love Maine hiking...not the drive though. At 3:44 what do those two blazes mean? I always wondered when I would see them.

+Joe R Maine is a far ride, but the mountain are cool! LOL Any time you see 2 blazes it means the trail is about to make a turn, so pay attention of you could end up lost, usually it is obvious which way to go though.

I never knew that about the double blazing. I've been hiking for 16 years but only been on Hike-NH for about 3 years. All those other years I really didn't know much but common sense. Glad I met you there Chuck. You've helped me out a lot. Thank you :)

Welcome to our back yard. Old Speck was our very 1st 4,000 footer when we moved to Maine from Ohio. Climbed it so many times we've lost count. Enjoyed the video and glad you enjoyed "our" mountain. Take care!

We are glad you enjoyed the video, we enjoyed "your" mountain! :) This mountain is quite the 1st 4000 footer and was our 1st 4000 footer in Maine. We have 12 more mountain to do in your state for the NE67 list.

I have been up some tall fire towers and the climb up was ok...but damn I would get vertigo.....because the descent is so steep...I never thought to climbe down it backwards...thanks for the tip!

+Hike with Mike The only way to treat this one was like a ladder, because that's what it really was. Yes though going down backwards does help a lot. :)

+Hike with Mike The Eyebrow Trail was a ton of fun!

So that's what the mountain looks like without snow on it! Great video as always. Since I hiked it in the dead of winter (#50), I didn't dare touch the Eyebrow Trail, but now that I have an idea of what it's like, I'll go that way if I ever re-do Old Speck in the summer.

+hiker0200 See what you made us start Spencer, another list????? LOL Yup the Eyebrow is a cool trail and we don't blame you at all for not taking that route in the winter. What a long hike it seemed like though to complete the whole trip.

That rocky peak you were looking at is Baldpate Mountain. It's a New England 100 highest and I would highly recommend it.

Thanks, that is another list we are poking away at. LOL

Yeah, I know it's 6 years later, but guess what we did on Wednesday! Now Prema is on me for the remaining 18.

This will be super interesting to see you both hit the NE 67. Fun! Curious, what town do you live in/drive from to get to all these hikes? Thanks.

+coolkayaker1 Thought we answered this already...hmmm. Thanks for you comment, we're looking forward to it too. :) We are in Southern NH close to RT93, so it's still a ride, but worth it. We spend a lot of time in Twin Mountain too and use it as a base camp.
