@@one4sorrow people often do it to make them look mean because they're typically used a guard dogs. I'm not saying that's okay btw. But the tail docking is iffy, some vets recommend it because super happy dogs can break their tails repeatedly or like the puppy I had as a child had his tail snipped as a puppy because his mother broke it and it healed very wrong and caused him discomfort. If it's actually needed I can see why it would be done, but just for looks isn't necessary

As a cat owner, when I brought home a puppy that I knew would grow up to be a large dog, my dog trainer friend advised that I allow the cats to wack the puppy as much as they wanted to, which they did. The reason was that the puppy learned straight away that the cats were not to be messed with. As a result, when the puppy grew to be an adult, she had great respect for the cats, even loved all cats she met on walks. BTW the cats never used their claws on the puppy, just would wack her on the top of her head to let her know they were boss. However, this doesn't work for bringin in older dogs who can be and are dangerous to cats.
@leslie21495 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I received a puppy once and my mother already had a year old cat. She put that puppy in his place very fast! She taught him so well in fact that, years later, when my mother became the owner of two little kittens Sage (the dog) was as gentle as silk with them. They would run over top of him, play with his tail and he'd just lay there and let them. In fact, he became a bit of a mother hen over them and would get upset when they would play and get under the dining room table where he couldn't reach them because he was afraid they were hurting each other! Multi animals in one home need to sort our their relationships just as long as they don't cause real harm to each other.

Yeah but that doesn't always work. I had a dog that was exposed to and raised with cats as a puppy and no amount of being whacked stopped him from trying to kill them. Alternatively, all my other dogs are pretty good with the cats so there are always rare exceptions. Granted, he was a tiny dog so as long as the cats weren't on the floor around him, things were pretty good.

I really hope Lisa educated them about littermate syndrome. After I experienced this with two young puppies I got around the same time I plead people to never get puppies at the same time. It was awful, the one puppy became so violent she almost killed the other a few times. With other dogs she was fine but not my other puppy. I tried fixing both of them, extensive reactive dog training and one on one training. Eventually I took her to a special rescue half an hour from where I live where they deal with dogs with similar problems. Last I heard she was adopted by an active single guy and was hiking, exploring, etc. Please people look up littermate syndrome before even thinking about adopting or buying 2 puppies at once.

Cats should generally meet the puppies immediately under supervision. They will teach the puppies not to mess with them. If they wait, like Lisa suggested, there will more than likely be trouble as the dogs will be larger and more into territory.
@patshhi46204 жыл бұрын
I agree. Lisa’s advice just delayed the inevitable. The sooner everyone meets the better. And these are puppies, not grown dogs.

Ur right but for me it was the kittens with a full grown dog we supervised there meeting and my new kittens just smacked her in the face and she backed off and is just like ok tiny creatures are in charge
@adde95064 жыл бұрын
Yes, this was surprisingly poor advice. Hopefully we just didn't get to see the part where she clarified that she meant there needed to be dog-free areas for the cats to escape into until everyone was friends. If nothing else, the cats are simply going to be less afraid of an animal that's barely larger than them. Not to mention the puppies will be much more receptive to becoming good friends of cats if they grow up with cats.
@ettinakitten50473 жыл бұрын
And for those meetings, it's best if the cat has the control. With my Labrador, one of the first things I taught her was to sit & stay, and I was strict about it until she could sit still while a cat wandered around right next to her. I also made sure the cats could get up high to places where they could watch the dog without interacting with the dog. One of our cats was a kitten we got a few months after we got the puppy, and for her, a big breakthrough came when she was up high watching the puppy play. I could see the lightbulb moment as she realized that if she could get over her fear of the dog, she could have a playmate.

Introducing your pets in stages is generally a good idea. It isn't usually necessary when the new pet is a puppy. Baby animals are almost always given a "pass" for their behavior by older animals, and cats will adjust to them much better the smaller they are. While it is practical to keep puppies in a particular area, keeping the cats out will just lead to territorial conflicts later. Cats are cautious, they won't get any closer than they're ready for.

Seeing these merle Danes. Especially the pure white one.... Poor dog's chances of getting blind and deaf is really high.
@IONE_the_Enby4 жыл бұрын
So the mother is a Merle, and the dad is black and white. Immediately the chances of blindness and deafness decrease when there's a parent who isn't Merle/has pigment. We can see that there's a nearly all black Dane pup, and that's a good sign- the nearly all white (I did see some faint black) could be a bit more risky. If the dad has Merle in his immediately lingene (like parent or grandparents) the likelyhood for "deadly white" dogs skyrocket. However- that being said nearly all white dogs with pigment in either nose, eyes, or paws (meaning not pink skin/nose or non-blue eyes) their likelyhood for blindness or deafness decrease significantly. How do I know this?? I own a mostly all white pit-lab-gsd-rottie-american bulldog mutt. He only has faint spots and black on his rump, he also has one blue eye and 'pinto beans' (his paws are speckled pink and black). Because of his coloration and blue eye he had to be throughly examed to make sure he didn't have any deafness, blindness, or other diseases associated with 'deadly white' dogs- because my dog has so much genetic variation he doesn't have a single thing wrong with him genetically or physically. I can tell your concerned, but for the most part they look like responsible breeders; had both parents been Merle I would've agreed wholeheartedly. My guess is that while Merle pups sell better the risk of dead/blind/deaf pups isn't worth improper breeding practices.

That koala didn't scratch him on purpose!! If you look closely, you can see he notices the branch and tries to reach for it and over swings and catches Chris's face on accident! He just wanted to get back in his tree and keep eating.

Flea and tick collars should be put on those Great Dane puppies and the two cats. I'm glad that they chose the grey spotted female puppy as I loved her coloring. I hope the family that got the Great Danes are still enjoying them. So sad about the spider monkey having cancer must have been hard to lose him. God bless.

That's such a cool looking falcon. Here in the US, we have falcons that look similar but not exactly like that one. (They're bigger and lighter colored, more brownish)

I’ve only been around one great Dane in my life and seen him grow from a puppy to a giant as tall as me. Just be careful, they are an amazing breed and so loving. Like Lisa said they are huge dogs & can scratch you up real good. Bites aren’t the best either even when it’s playful. But such loving babies, one of the best!😄❤️
