I remember all of this from the signage, to the sitting area, the arrival fence and the kiosks. What a great throwback to my childhood.

Thank you for posting, remember it well and from ten years earlier as well when I first started visiting my mom before I moved there. One love always, USVI, keep moving forward for the youth, teach them truth, peace, love and most of all respect!

Wow, what an amazing piece of history. I love Caribbean history especially the history of the VI and SKB. I'm sure I've seen the airport as it is in the video, but I wouldn't remember because I was little more than a toddler in the late 80s. The airport back then looked like a dilapidated old warehouse. So glad they renovated!

I was there in early 80's and thats what it looked like. Flew in on Eastern 727 from Miami. Landed so hard the oxygen masks dropped and I was slammed into back of seat in front of me. I could only remember the huge Marlin on the wall and the free Rum Punch. Thanks for the video now I can remember more now. We had to take off with minimum fuel for weight and flew to St. Johns to get fuel and food and more passengers. Ahh good times!

Yes, before they extended the runway the big jets had to land at San Juan, Puerto Rico to fuel up before heading to its destination. No airports on St. John.

I didn't know Pan Am was still flying then. I thought they stopped flying out of St Thomas in the early 70's.

This is so accurate! We traveled there many times as American Airlines employees ... it was hot hit hot... noisy... they had no bag belt... often the bag belt wasn’t working. I can remember my bag being plopped in the sand... BUT they did greet you with a little island drink about the size of a shot and it packed a punch! Ahhh.... memories!

Lived on St. Thomas from early 1965 to early 1976, and remember that big old Harry S. Truman airport WWII hangar terminal well. I flew in and out of that airport many times, sometimes on jet airliners, sometimes on old DC-3s, and many, many times as a skydiver on small private planes. The new terminal looks great (I last saw it in 1990), but it lacks the retro charm of the old hangar.

Since at around 8:30 they show the design for the new airport I would say this is late '88 or '89. I spent from '81 (11 years old) to '90 on STT and went through this hangar many times. I also know the hanger wasn't destroyed until after Jan. '90 because that is when I finished putting the flat roof on the new terminal.

I remember when I used to buy club sandwiches from the restaurant on the 2nd floor. I think it was Sparky's restaurant There goes the Panam jet. I liked Panam jet because they served a real lunch on the plane back in the 80s. The cost of the food was included in the ticket. In those days the passengers were well dressed.
