on my second pack canoe... first thing I did in both... take OUT the seat... devise your own... I sit no more than 1" off the floor … 50 times more stable

What did you use for a seat? I was thinking of doing the same thing.

Thanks for this comment, plutoplatters. This led me down a rabbit hole and discovering other modifications I would consider for my first canoe.

I took electrical conduit with 6" screws, cut the conduit in 4" pieces and put screws through each one to lower my seat 4" so its still easy stepping out with one foot but its more stable.
@CHARLESCRANFORD3 жыл бұрын
I like sitting up high, so I have my seat in the factory position. It does make it a bit tippy, but I have only gone for one unplanned swim (so far) but it was my fault for getting sideways in some rough water. Did you use metal conduit, and what diameter?
@plutoplatters5 жыл бұрын
also removed the thwart which is right in front of ones shins..... put in a nylon strap with a buckle set up where the thwart was..... hence you can for more easily get in,etc
@joeblank6185 жыл бұрын
I took the web seat out of mine and put in a thwart and a folding cushioned seat that sits on a float cushion. much less tippy and more comfortable , sitting lower makes using a double blade paddle feel and work better. What brand of lifejacket are you using , looks comfortable .
@CHARLESCRANFORD5 жыл бұрын
Joe, Thank you for the comment. I like sitting up high and don't find it too tippy. I have been wanting to try it with my crazy creek chair. The life jacket is the Stohlquist Ebb PFD - Men's in small medium. I am a 42 chest size and got the vest on sale at REI . I was worried that it might be a bit small, but it fits great and even has a bit more room to wear over a jacket. Thanks again and keep watching I will have more canoeing videos coming.

I have seen them go for over $1000. I was lucky and the guy I bought it from had listed it as a "nice canoe" no brand name or model or pictures. I texted him and said that it would sell faster if he included that information. He texted me back with pictures, and I bought it about one hour later. Good luck finding one, they are worth it.

Even better. If you notice, in the video, it rides a little bow high. With 50 to 80 pounds, in the front, it rides almost level. For reference, I am 190 pounds. Thank you for the question.

Where did you buy it? Mine fell off my friends car driving only 35 mph. Turned around and it was gone😕

Where did you loose yours? Mine was in too good of shape to have fallen off a car.

@@CHARLESCRANFORD I know it's a silly question, right, thinking it may be the same one! Lol... but it fell off in Peninsula, Ohio on Akron Peninsula road in the Cuyahoga valley national park. The radio was blasting. I was talking with my friend, and all of a sudden we noticed the boat was gone. Vanished. Totally weird! The vin number is... xtc314025L503. It's probably not the same but that would be hilarious if it was. No use trying to get it back now. I hope it's in a good home and getting used. Enjoy!

@@EmilyVidd Just in case, I checked my VIN and it is not yours.. I bought mine in North Carolina. As far as I know, I am the third owner. There was only one scratch on the bottom, when I got it. Sorry again about you loosing yours. I am not familiar with the road, but you might want to go back and look for it again. If it caught air and flown further and higher than you think. It might still be in a tree just out of view. Good luck.

@@CHARLESCRANFORD thanks, you're sweet to have checked! It would have just been crazy if it was. Luckily I have two other beautiful canoes. They aren't as durable but they are great. I did, in fact, search the entire area, and at different seasons. Told the police, the park rangers, and the Ohio dnr. Thanks again for looking out of curiosity. Be safe on the water

Hey Charles, Is there room for a medium sized dog in the front?
@robcaponesoutdooradventure82865 жыл бұрын
Looks to be plenty of room right?
@CHARLESCRANFORD5 жыл бұрын
@@robcaponesoutdooradventure8286 A large size dog would have room. Whatever size dog, would have to sit still. If he was moving around and jumping on the gunnels, you might go swimming. My son and I have made a couple of trips. He is fifty pounds. Thank you for the comment.

How much would one of these cost.
@CHARLESCRANFORD5 жыл бұрын
I was very lucky and got mine for $400. I have seen them go for as high as $1000. And since they do not make these anymore, those are used prices. If they are listed as an Old Town Pack, they will be higher. Try and sort thru online listings of just "canoe" you might find a better deal that way. Thank you for the question and good luck finding one.
