Try to catch them taking the old signals down more often if you can. Seeing the dramatic transformation from an ugly cluster intersection to a nice Box-Wire intersection is so satisfying!

Dang. I like cluster intersections a lot more for some reason. The only box-wire intersections I like are those with backplates on them.

@@anonemius328 A lot of the clusters give intersections and streets character. In fact one of the sad things about many signals is how uniform they are starting to look. Older signals often times give a very signature look, like when your in specific state, you can glance at the older intersections and know you are here.

EPIC140 controller in the old cabinet. That was Michigan’s standard controller for many years. Quite a few still in service, but the numbers dropping. I have an EPIC sitting on my workbench

Are they easy to operate far as the controls of the system?

Relatively easy to operate. You need a basic understanding of traffic engineering terminology to program it. The EPICs were unique in that they were open ended timers you assigned any output to. So you could make any sequence for an intersection. If timers ended on a fraction the next timer started on an “on” state. You can see this when a flashing dont walk or flashing red left turn has a studder in the flashing. It’s because the timer was a fraction. EPICs are very limited controllers nowadays. They dont handle much detection or communication capability. Cobalts, which was this intersection’s replacement and similar controllers are much more powerful and user friendly.

There’s an entire intersection near where I live that has the increasingly rare 12-8-8 signal heads from the late ‘70’s/early’80’s that are near their end of life and are due for replacement and I’m keen to acquire. Once these signals are gone - especially pre-2000 signals - they’re likely left in some signal graveyard maintained by the city.

If you ever get a chance to do so you should capture a new set of signals activating for the first time right as the switch is flipped.

Please tell the City that the 4-sec flashing arrow signal is wired wrong and violates the MUTCD. The arrow is supposed to flash in the 3rd section, not the 2nd. Thanks.

Reconstructing this Intersection isn't a Bad thing! I seen some places where the Traffic Lights just got Replaced for some New Ones but WORSE HAD TO FIX THE ROAD TOO.... and the Place would be Under Construction for Weeks.... Probably a Month! yeah this is nothing Compared to what I seen before! coming from someone on the other side of the Lake in Ontario!

The first thing I noticed was the solid and blinking yellow arrows were juxtaposed. When those types of lights were introduced to Las Vegas, I saw one of them like that as well, though those lights function where the green light goes first then after changing back to red briefly, the blinking light comes on, and then it changes back to red again. So, to see the top arrow blink, then the arrow below it come on before turning red was really strange. UPDATE: I realize I am not the first here to notice that.

Left Turn Signal should only have 3 Lens instead of 4. So that way it’ll be a Same Color All in One to share with Flashing Yellow Arrow & Steady Yellow.

I do like the extra arrow beacon I think it let drivers know it's a Left Turn Signal or they should put the left cube sign on the top
