As a fan of the original, Teen Titans GO seemed like a cash grab. They took characters that already had a loyal fan base and used that fact to market a brand new show that wasn't just unlike the original but spat in the face of the fans. It seems to be the MO for studios now. Take a well known IP, use the existing fan base to build it up, distort the IP until it is unrecognizable, then blame the fans when the new version gets rightfully lampooned.

One of the biggest problems with this video is that it entirely ignores one of the biggest issues with TTG, which is how the network treats it. TTG is pretty much the single most promoted show they've done in years. This would be annoying if it was just merchandise and idents and such, but it'd be something that could be easily ignored. But with TTG there's literally cases of it being practically the only show on for days at a time. I'm not trying to exaggerate here, TVTropes has it's own page for TTG in the 'Adored by the Network' trope, which lists examples of this, with up to fourteen straight hours of TTG, and cases of up to six straight hours of the same single episode. Now, I haven't been watching for a while, but admittedly it does seem better than it was (TVTropes talks about it being more like five hour blocks now, which is still a lot, but not as bad as nine hour blocks), but that kind of thing cannot help but have an impact. Especially in the beginning where beloved shows like Young Justice were being bumped off for something as vapid as TTG. Combine this with a lot of the meta humour mentioned in the video being very meanspirited early on in the show's run and it's hardly a surprise that people would end up absolutely loathing this, since it comes across as a big middle finger from both the network and showrunners.
@molamola5426 жыл бұрын
I mean... I don't think how the network treats the show should affect the comparison between the two
@dawk76 жыл бұрын
I think he's talking about the part where Doug finds it odd that the old fans still seem to even care about said show- because it's true, if you dislike something, just ignore it completely. The issue is, if you still have a certain love for cartoons and continue to keep track with them, TTGo isn't really something you can avoid, when one of the big networks is absolutely shoving it onto people's faces. It's a matter of The-Elephant-In-The-Room, it's not just some new show-up to be quietly disappointed on until it fades. Honestly... what can be said? TTGo is an okay show, with good writing. It's simple for sure, but kids don't care about the depth of a show until they start to grow up along with it. No, the thing is that for this case, and simply by the design they have chosen, TTGo is going to inevitably disrespect the source material it's taking as inspiration. With extra "merit" given to the _very_ mean-spirited meta humor used in the beginning of its run-time, in the end... the burn from that way they have treated the old love fans had, it ends up going quite deep. Mix those two paragraphs together, and you have this kind of situation.

Super Isaiah "Shut. The fuck. Up." ~Penn This is a bullshit fallacy and it never works. "if you don't like it, don't see it" can be used on just about EVERYTHING. EV. ER. Y. THING. Oh, don't like Star Wars The Last Jedi? Then don't go seeing it. And yes, the way a network treats a show can greatly affect its quality. The show itself is OK and it is occasionally funny for real reasons other than fetish fuels and stupid jokes, but let's take this into another example. I love crab legs. I absolutely do. However, if I spent every day, every hour, every waking moment eating nothing but crab legs, I'll eventually get sick and tired of crab legs and hate them. With how much CN has been pushing the show (literally, there have been times it was the ONLY show running for full days at a time; no shit), it easily fatigues the content and it gets extremely tiring. Wanna know why it's making money? Just look at what I said: they're literally making it become (almost) the ONLY show that airs, except for the occasional movie and/or new episode for a show (and even then, they RARELY advertise them). So no, just because it's bad doesn't mean I should avoid it. That fallacy shit is why shit quality shit is getting shat out by the day (Star Wars, video games, books, and politics, need I go on?). STOP it with that argument. Seriously.

I really do not like Teen Titans Go! but I think the main reason for the hatred towards the series is because of the really bad decisions of Cartoon Network in recent years. First they canceled Young Justice and Green Lantern, besides they stopped doing the animated shorts of DC Nation. Sure, then we had Justice League Action, but many fans of comics and action cartoons were really disappointed. So, Cartoon Network started making cartoons with the same base, like the remakes of Powerpuff Girls and Ben 10. One can argue that these new series are actually worse than Teen Titans Go! because they were made to follow a trend, not because of a desicion of their creatives who wanted to do something different. Again, many fans were angry at what we saw as a lack of respect for those characters. Finally, Cartoon Network has the bad habit of giving Teen Titans Go! all the damn time. If they use a more organized schedule that would give better series more often, people would not be so fucked up. But instead, they give 4 hours of Teen Titans Go! per day and marathons of 3 days in a row.

The reason for the hate: Warner Bros LIED. When the show was announced, the fans were told that the show would be the Teen Titans characters, but in more down to earth, comedic situations. There were even previews that the fans overall really liked. Everyone was SUPER hyped for this new show. And then... We didn't get the Teen Titans. Like Doug said, we got... The same character. Worse than that, each Titan is a mockery of their original. Robin is an overattached psychopath, Raven is and emo putting on a front, if she even bothers pretending, Cyborg and Beast Boy are the exact same person, with zero serious qualities, and Starfire is the most 2-dimensional of them all... This WASN'T the Teen Titans. We were lied to. We were promised steak, and we bit into a chocolate cake... I can appreciate the show for what it is. It CAN be clever at times, and it is somewhat funny. I can also fully understand the abject HATRED old fans of the show have for TTG.

Personally, I dislike TTG because it's another mindless, colorful, time wasting cartoon that exists almost solely as something for parents to put their children in front of to keep them occupied for an hour. Same reason I didn't like the PPG reboot or any of the last few years of Nickelodeon. I don't hate it, because I literally don't really care enough about it to do so. I loved the original series, and am kind of sad the reboot is such a disappointment, but that's about it. I will, however, acknowledge that that Make-A-Wish thing they did was an incredibly nice thing to do for that kid, and the crew has my admiration for doing that for him.

to be honest, i kind of apreciate that they invited the fan to the show... but he had little to no participation on it (his voice was ... not so good for voiceacting, i get it). but that episode, for me, felt like a blatant pitty-washing from the creators to clean their image: the episode was ALL AROUND TTG fans and how they should love them indiscriminatedly and acritically, and they didn't iclude him in a meaningful way. Maybe they could've made an episode aluding to the kids condition and how he can live with it (was kidneys' related as far as i remember), or about aceptance of the diferences or... ANYTHING rather than utilizing him for wash their image... for me that episode ws pathetic and rather manipulative... And you know what's the worst part? i LIKE teen titans go! and find it a silly TT parody and it makes me chuckle here and there because it's 4-wall/parody/ironic tone, but i consider that the lowest the series has done; hell! i dislike TT fans and their stupid zealot attitude towards TTG, (despite i LOVING the original TT, like, bros... it's just a cartoon, get over it nsotalgiafags) but that episode wasn't bad... it was WRONG.

I’m in that same boat. I hate it more for what it represents than what it is. With a 1 year old nephew, he loves this show, and I will admit every once and a while, it makes me chuckle. I think part of the issue is that it's not just 'it's own thing', it's Teen Titans. It's the same voice actors and the same character designs (art style notwithstanding) and the same environment, turned into something that the original never was and using the Teen Titans television brand to ride the original's coattails. If this were just another wacky comedy with a different set of characters -- even parodies of the television Titans, or at least *different designs* -- it wouldn't be such an issue, it would at least be justified as being its own thing. But it's not. It's explicitly Teen Titans. It's taking advantage of a pre-established fanbase. There's no reason it *had* to be Teen Titans if it going to go off in such a different direction, but it made a very intentional decision to do so. It's absurd to think that it just wanted to do its own thing or it would have been its own IP. Compare to Ducktales 2017: it's different than the original run, it has a much more modern style, its beats and humor and characterization are done completely differently, but it works because it has the same heart and it respects its history. Or going back a little more, TMNT 2012: it's more modern in its style and references and was met with some trepidation when it was first teased, but it's clear that its creators have a real love of the franchise and not only got the *feel* of the Turtles right, but paid homage to the many different Turtles histories and universes and it's a beloved series. Hell, look at My Little Pony; it's not strictly a reboot, but it was another unexpected franchise revival that was made by people who loved and wanted to do right by the original series. These reboots felt like they happened because there was something to add to their franchises, because there were stories to tell and they wanted to be told, like somebody had a real idea for a revival and pitched that first (and even if it was a more cynical marketing decision, they still wanted to make something *good*). Things like Teen Titans Go!, meanwhile, feel like an executive was flipping through their IPs and said "Hey, nostalgia! We can make money off this!" The cynicism is palpable. The fact that TTG! is itself so cynical (using entire episodes to misrepresent legitimate complaints and their detractors, their audience, and the original show) just drives the point home. That, I think, is why people hate TTG! It's not just because the original Teen Titans was given the shaft and its replacement is of such reduced quality, it's that it exists as it does solely to take advantage of its name brand. ...that and Cartoon Network's programming is, like, 87% TTG! by volume and that's really obnoxious I don't care what program you're showing.

THANK YOU. My number one problem with TTG is that they are all the exact same character. It's always more funny to watch personalities collide and clash, but if they're all the same and give similar reactions to everything, it just gets old and boring. If they kept the comedy while keeping characters at least a little true to their original selves, I think it'd be a much better show. I wouldn't say the hate TTG gets is unjustified. I think there's a few reasons for it. Like you said, the timing was bad. The biggest insult is that they got ALL of the original voice actors and instead of getting a revival of the original show, their talent is being wasted on this. Imagine if Batman the Animated Series got cancelled in 1995 and in 2000, you got something like Batman: The Brave and the Bold with ALL of the original VAs returning to voice their characters in a childish comedic show of overly meta satire. Maybe if this show came out twenty years later or something, it wouldn't be as big of a deal. But when the possibility of a continuation of something you love is dangled in front of you like a carrot, but out of reach in favor of something clearly lessened in quality, it's frustrating. That being said, I don't hate Teen Titans Go and while I think it's dumb, it can be fun sometimes and there's actually some interesting ideas in there. But I get the hate. I agree that ignoring a show is the best way to hurt it where it matters, but that's only if you want it dead and forgotten and never spoken of again. That's not the case with TTG. People hate on it mostly because they want the return of the original, in which case, you very much do need to make your criticism and complaints loud and clear in order for those in authority to get the memo. It's not just that people hate it. They hate it, but they also WANT something else. So, I wouldn't say it's as simple as "just ignore it." I believe the outcry is what resulted in the potential revival of the original show that now seems like a possibility. So I think there's still SOME merit to expressing discontentment and dissatisfaction depending on the context.

Manuel Alberto Romero But... did you read my actual comment? I quite clearly said I don't hate TTG, but I was just trying to explain why I believe it gets as much hate as it does and why I think, in some contexts, it's a little justified.
@bashbro1able6 жыл бұрын
Ur Waifu is Shit Well normally, I might agree if this were a random kids show with no connection or ties to a previous franchise that brings our current age of young adults a lot of nostalgia, but this is a case where I think it's more understandable. To have all of the original VAs back from a childhood favorite show only to not get a continuation after a cancellation is understandably frustrating. I'd argue that the adults who complained are what resulted in the potential revival of the original show. If you want to make the argument that "BUT IT'S FOR KIDS", so was the original Teen Titans.
@bashbro1able6 жыл бұрын
I never said one is better than the other. If you read my comment, that was not the argument I was trying to make at all. And yes, there's always been dumb kids shows, but just because that's the case, I don't think that's a good excuse. I think people should always push for better quality, no matter what the demographic. Kids deserve better than just shoving anything down their throat and surmising it up to "well it's a kids show, kids r dumb." And like I said, TTG isn't really just any old kids show. Let's imagine that these were all original characters that had absolutely no connection to the original - I get the feeling people wouldn't give a shit or bat an eye. The problem is that they're taking essentially the same characters from a childhood favorite show and making a 180 out of them. They didn't even really redesign them. For example, replace the characters of Spongebob with characters from Avatar the Last Airbender with all of the original voice actors in a brand new animated series instead of making a follow-up to the unresolved (excluding the comic) plot thread of Zuko's missing mother and people MIGHT have more of a problem. If this was the type of show they wanted to make, they could have at least done their own thing, created their own original superhero characters, and not take advantage of the popularity of something that was once beloved by so many. But for the record, I don't mind that TTG is a comedy with no character development or drama, I just hate that the characters are all self-centered assholes who make the same jokes. They can't really bounce off each other, unlike the Looney Tunes, which had extremely clever writing where every character is still unique to themselves.

It's just another instance of TV networks not having respect for young viewers... the same kids that enjoy TTGO would also enjoy the original it's not like the show was too complex for them... it shows that CN is completely out of touch and don't understand that alot of the past generation of kids(90's kids) never grew out of liking animated entertainment like the generation before them did.... and they are ignoring a huge portion of potential viewers... Everything the Critic said about the Titans being unfit for a comedy genre is true. Taking these characters who worked hard to connect with one another and become strong heroes/individuals...and then throwing them into a world where they're nothing but selfish, inconsiderate pricks to not only the city but each other. That feels like a tremendous slap to the face. Before people decide to say I'm "not part of the target demographic; so, the show's not meant for you." Let me just say...you might be right. HOWEVER...I hate how networks are making shows strictly for one age group. That works for Disney Jr. and Nick Jr. because those blocks are meant to educate the wee ones. But when you use that business sense in making other programs, it just doesn't seem fair. People who grew up in the 80's, 90's and early 2000's saw shows that appealed to both kids AND older audiences. Avatar: The Last Airbender, Foster's, Billy & Mandy and Samurai Jack (just to name a few) are examples of how well this works when done the RIGHT way. Today, however; with the world in the "television is dying" mindset. It feels like animation is doomed to remain in a state of fart jokes, meme humor and tasteless references like TTG is doing

Thus why there should be a balance with the schedule with every show. I mean if you just show one show or one aimed for one group of the audience, then it's not a network for all or a show for all, it would just be just call a teen titans go channel. Yes it is successful, yes you are aiming for kids, but don't you think it's better to give other shows a chance? Nuff said.

you're totally right... and it's weird how both CN and Disney have put some "childish looking" cartoons (Adventure Time, Gravity Falls) but instead of following the path of a smarth, funny and clever story cartoon, they go with "weird" because it's a trend, specially cartoon network... and i "blame" Adventure Time for it, AT did fine because the over the top comedy and weirdness also had a deep story, but now it's just lazy weirdness for the sake of being weird, and lazy designs for cheaper animation (Ben 10, Thundercats Roar, the new power puff girls)... i remember in some cartoons and live action shows, had like one weird character, Drake And Josh had Gavin, and Crazy Steve, every scene they were in they just delivered a nonesense line or did something crazy, but it didn't happen too often, like once per episode.... then all shows feature one weird character on their main cast, if not the entire cast is like that... I was like 20 when i first watched Gravity Falls, and that says a lot, it's not an adult show, it's a kid's one adults can enjoy... i also grew up watching re-runs of original Ducktales, and can totally watch the new reboot, becuase it's done in a smart way... on the other hand, i can't watch TT-Go, new PPGirls, Ben 10...

I wasn't a fan of either TT versions. I'd prefer Young Justice. But there is one thing that really bites at me. Call it Eldest Child Angst. Teen Titans strikes me as the oldest child. It works hard and after all that WB was like 'yeah whatever. Teen Titans Go is the youngest child. The one that drops his pants and everyone laughs and gives another season order. It really strikes my fairness nerve hard. Old TT worked its ass off and WB seemed to look for reasons to yank it. TTG barely wakes up in the morning and Cartoon Network wallpapers on multi-hour blocks. Any older siblings who get what I'm saying?

Yeah I remember having to be very vigilant about when Teen Titans was showing, or else I'd miss the window of opportunity to watch it. Then, for whatever reason, they started showing the "hi hi something yaki yumi show" (I can't be bothered to search the real name) right after each new episode, instead of maybe a rerun or two... I just couldn't figure out their game... Between this, Arrested Development, and Avatar the last Airbender, it seemed like networks didn't give a shit about the shows I liked. TTG didn't ruin my childhood, because thankfully I have memories of how amazing the original Teen Titans was. I just feel bad for the little kids who grew up thinking TTG was an accurate representation of the comics; especially nowadays when comic book movies are trending more toward darker or at least more complex storylines. Imagine going from "tee hee, WAFFLES!!" to "Jason Todd took a crowbar to the dome , Batman's parents were shot in front of him, Iron Man was an alcoholic/is dying/died to save humanity, and Superman is an orphan whose planet blew up." At least WE had TT to ease us into the harsh stuff. Kids who grew up on TTG were thrown into the deep end without a floatie.

It was "slightly" better than laying in bed staring at the wall. The animation was meh, there was no story, and no real character to the characters. The jokes and dialogue somehow came across as more basic than a bugs bunny cartoon, with even less point. I was a bit loopy from a very high fever when i started watching it, but I swear there was one episode celebrating how poorly done it was and how it pissed the fans of the original off.

Teen Titans: lasting memories that makes us wanna come back for more. Teen Titans Go: tv filler. Laugh and forget. In the end Teen Titans is the show that fans will come back over and over to see because of it's amazing story and characters. We feel and love each story of the characters. From Starfires quirky princess story to spades dark evil saga.
The biggest problem with Teen Titans Go is that it's at its best when using reference humor. If it's actually good at that then why is it a weakness? Well you see the show obsesses over pointing out that it's for kids. In reference comedy the audience has to know the reference to enjoy otherwise they'll just be confused and wonder what happened. Kids, being younger, have less experience and are the most likely demographic to not get reference humor. Their strength is literally being used in the worst way possible. Add that to a creator who says kids don't need good shows and you have the hallmarks of a poorly ran show. If the thing wasn't played half the day I doubt it would make money.

"It's a cartoon, so obviously it's for kids!" is why I hate TTG. Don't get me wrong, being a huge fan of the original, I already disliked GO!, but I just chalked it up as another dumb modern-age cartoon for kids. Then I heard about the clown episode. Then I saw the clown episode. And now I hate GO! with a fiery passion. Cartoons are not just for kids. With clever writing, good characters and a good story, a cartoon can be for everyone. As Critic said, Hey Arnold can be chalked up as a kids cartoon, but it still has the drama and story that adults can enjoy. Even Rugrats was able to bring about some tearjerking moments with some serious adult topics in a cartoon. Pokemon had great moments, Arthur, Courage, Samurai Jack, OG PPG, I even remember Animaniacs having serious moments about Dot. Cartoons do not have to be just for kids, and it's one thing that cartoons are seriously lacking these days: Good writing.
@NotaBee-996 жыл бұрын
I also saw that clown episode. I'm pretty sure that when they were saying that "cartoons are just for kids", they were talking about kids cartoons. And yes, those cartoons that you mentioned are for kids. But, there are so many cartoons out there that are actually for adults to where they don't even need to wasted their time watching something meant for 5 year olds, especially if they hate it. I've seen this time and time again. Cartoon fans who preach that animation is for adults too when in actuality, they are only talking about cartoon shows not meant for adults. It's alright if you still look back on the shows that inspired you with a smile and it's even fine to watch whatever's on now...but those shows ARE for kids and shows like MLP, Steven Universe, Star vs. the Forces of Evil, whatever other show animation reviewers on the internet overhype to oblivion and especially TTG! are for kids. No amount of grown adults obsessing over them will ever change that. But like I said, there are cartoons for adults out there. Adult Swim is a thing and studios like NFB, Laika, Cartoon Saloon and Aardman make cartoons that can be enjoyed by anyone of any age. There's also people like Bill Plympton and Ralph Bakshi who make shorts and films exclusively for adults. Plus, there's Looney Tunes soooo...yeah.

Its an interesting analysis. Take Teen Titans and compare it to Teen Titans Go. Take Clone Wars and compare it to rebels. Take Last Airbender and compare it to Kora. The former were all usually early 2000s and dealt with serious topics but also introduced plenty of fun and levity for the younger audience. The shows were powerful because they were willing to take VERY serious topics and treated both the characters and the audience with respect by trusting that they can deal with the reality of the situation. Compared to the later, you dont see very dark or serious topics in the 2010 onward kid shows. They became "Kidish," unwilling to deal with complicated topics and only focusing on goofiness. Yes goofy is fine but that isn't what makes a powerful show. I feel bad for kids nowadays because i feel their selection is very piss poor. I used to come home and watch Toonami. Avatar, Naruto, FMAB, Teen Titans, Star Wars all good shows that influenced me into the man i am today. I just hope kids today can make up for the deficit in quality television.

yeah but, that doesn't mean that isn't a problem. When they constantly show the same thing over and over even if you like it you will just show fatigue and in some cases hatred for the thing. Yes I could be doing something else, but what if there is nothing better to do? what if I am sick and I cannot go out? There are people who it's either TTG or something else that is also just as irrelevant and that they just hate or don't care at all. Also what type of message a network is throwing at you by constantly airing the same thing over and over. You can try to dimish the issue all you want. It's still an issue and people get sick and tired of being "hey let's see what is on... nvm it's this thing again..." constantly. It doesn't help the network, it doesn't make things better for those who enjoy the show since they will grow tired of it eventually, it really doesn't help those who just hate the show. I can't speak for everyone, but the reason I hate Go is because Teen Titans meant something. It had characters you could care about, villains who were legitimately scary, and the conflicts between the two would flesh out both to ridiculous degrees. It was the show that taught me heroes could be more than angry punchy people in masks. And then they made Go, and that entire show can be summed up as "LOL WAFFLES FARTING RANDOMNESS SO CRAZYYYYYY!!!1!" If it had been a new show with it's own original characters, that'd be fine. But seeing the Titans be turned into THAT felt like an insult. It'd be like if they remade Avatar with terrible art and entire episodes dedicated to who can fart the loudest.

I personally think the hatred mainly comes from the fact that it went from a deep(ish), interesting show with amazing characters to...waffles. Quite frankly, if it hadnt been Teen Titans or hell, if they'd not ended the original on a cliffhanger, the show would probably have been pretty well received. It doesnt help that the show keeps kicking the fans of the original in the nuts. Its fine to make fun of the fans, but many of the fans of the original do have genuine grevences and being insulted doesnt help. I've also heard that the creater of TTG knows that his show is low effort mental junk food for kids and doesnt give a shit because its for kids. Not sure how accurate that is considering I heard it from someone who hates it, but thats likely part of it as well.
@Mattsterweb6 жыл бұрын
That's kind of my opinion on it. I'm neither a die-hard fan of the original nor a rabid hater of Go, but I feel like if the original had ended with a satisfying conclusion, the Go haters would have been more inclined to just ignore the new series instead of frothing at the mouth about it, because they would have a more complete series to be nostalgic about. It's also possible that people thought a revival of Teen Titans gave them a chance to get that conclusion, which was instead squandered on a goof show?

You definitely hit the nail on the head with the tipping point. As for, "Why all the hatred?", I think it has to do with how close we all felt to the original characters. We felt so much for them, we thought of them almost as family, and to murder their personalities in favor of often terrible humor was...unforgivable.
@LuniNightwind6 жыл бұрын
I do have to disagree how TTG attacks fans like other shows. The other shows, it tends to just be one 2-4 minute joke before they are done with it. But then we have TTG, who made ENTIRE episodes attacking the critiques. These are different and even though they acknowledge their flaws, they never tried to be better. Just because they know how bad they are, doesn't mean those moments are good, especially when they have no sign of improving. Also, the writing is just terrible. Not only are all characters basically the same, but their personalities changed with every episode. They would have no respect for Robin yet in other episodes they show HIGH respect for him. BTW the only way I know of this is I basically watch clips from youtube, not posted by CN, and hear episodes from people.

Here's a secret. The creators are trolling the original fans on purpose because they are original fans too. There's some stuff in there for us, hell some of the TTG Movie jokes had me rolling and proved to me that the creators actually do love TT very much. There's something else going on that's making it so they can't do fully what they'd like to do, especially at the beginning of the series. There's gotta be more to the story than the creators are shitting on everyone on purpose because it's funny, but they do admit to doing it a little bit in an interview.

I have never seen an episode, but the "Getting Serious" clip already contradicts your point of completely incompetent writing, in my opinion. It's stupid, sure, but it pokes fun at just the right tropes (BB saying it was an honor, starfire has to say something serious but duty always interrupts) to show that whoever is writing the show isn't a complete hack.
@MrDj2326 жыл бұрын
I'll tell TTG the same thing I told Nitpix. If you know a joke is bad and lasts too long, don't run with it and then joke about how bad it was. Just cut it from the script.
@LuniNightwind6 жыл бұрын
That's one I had saw on TV before the show started to get worst. I have to admit, it was silly, especially the bit with Aquaman. But then more episodes that attack critics came and it was blatantly obvious. I didn't think 'Getting Serious' was an attack on critics but then we have 'Return of Slade' which the main message is 'You can't enjoy things meant for kids' or something along those lines. Season one seemed like they were trying, but as they kept going they just made everyone jerks and have inconsistent character. As Doug mentioned, with this kind of writing, our titans weren't needed. They could've gone with a new set of heros and the jokes will still work.
@dannyandrews70856 жыл бұрын
my main issue is that this show could have been made almost exactly the way it is if you replace the teen titans and all the related characters and location with something original. like you said, none of them retain there individual character. the creators could have made all new characters and the show would have been the same. Teen Titans Go angers me because the teen titans legacy is being used as a marketing ploy for something that has nothing to do whit the teen titans
@Menfhis246 жыл бұрын
I thought the same thing but I also have the feeling that if they didn't use "Teen Titans' simply for name recognition then the show wouldn't be nearly as popular. I think kids would still like it but older viewers, including myself, wouldn't give it much attention. At most I think people would be saying it's just ok.

Very true. In fact, CN did do this with Unikitty. They made the exact same show as TTG, but with mostly original characters and it does work a lot better. They are also doing this with Thundercats, but something tells me that's going to go about as well as TTG. Another beloved franchise that had a prematurely cancelled serious show on CN being turned into a dumb comedy for kids instead of getting revived? Yeah, I'm sure fans will love it....
@icecreamhero23756 жыл бұрын
It has the same writers but they are very different Princess Unikitty is the leader she is upbeat and loves everything cute but she is far more reasonable, Dr. Fox is really in to science, Richard is the funniest character and he is like the Pixies from Fairly Odd Parents, Hawkdile is the muscle, and Puppycorn is dumb and energetic.

What i mean is that I disagree. "Haters" already hate the show, right? Too bad the makers of the show aren't. You focus on the haters, you create more hate. Either ignore it, or just accept it and do better. Animaniacs had haters in its early days and so did Naruto and Batman (1992), but now they the GOAT because they either did there own thing or selected the criticism and chose what parts to do better. I used to enjoy TTG when it first aired. It was silly, it was over-the-top, it was inappropriate, and it was self-aware. It was clearly not meant for kids (I mean, in one episode, Beast Boy gets everyone killed for the sake of a prank and shows absolutely no remorse whatsoever), especially with all the internet jokes and over-the-top deprecation of the main characters, which are the same Titans we had seen growing up. It is not a new iteration of Teen Titans, it is not their own interpretation of the Teen Titans, it is the exact same team we watched in the early 2000's. Heck, they even brought the same voice actors to do this show. It felt like the writers were saying "hey, remember this amazing show you loved as a kid? Let's poke some fun at it!" It was gold! But everything changed when "The Return of Slade" attacked. That episode put the entire series into a different light. That episode is clear on its message that TTG is meant for kids and not for fans of the original show. But the worst part about that episode is that it keeps telling me I should feel embarrassed for watching cartoons at my age, and that it doesn't want to draw in the older demographic. As I mentioned before, this show brought the original TT and the voice actors to make this show, in order to poke fun at the cartoon we grew up watching. And then they suddenly decide to make it clear they don't want that crowd watching them. It's like showing an ad for cake and stating you only want people with diabetes in your store! Especially because the kids of today don't know anything about the original series, so the show keeps talking about something the kids have no idea what is being talked about! That episode is what made me despise Teen Titans Go. I went from a casual fan of the jab at the show I loved to a detractor of this mess. They are NOT self-aware, they do believe they are appropriate for children, and they are willing to dedicate long episodes to attack a portion of the audience while neglecting their supposed target audience. They keep referencing the older series and the comic books, but unless you've seen them, which kids certainly haven't (no kid is willing to read the story about how Batman got Batgirl pregnant and planted an ambush so she'd lose the baby), you have no idea what is being poked fun at, but at the same time, they keep shooing the demographic that does read/watch the source material and would be the audience these jokes would resonate with! The worst part of it all is that they are PROUD of shaming their detractors. They don't see their work as a parody of the original (which is the mentality I went in at first, and what made me enjoy the show back in season one), they see it as something better, all while using the excuse that "it's just a children's cartoon" to deflect any sort of criticism at the same time they obsess over the hatred they receive in the form of tamper tantrum disguised as "episodes." The best episodes of the show (that episode where Cyborg is addicted to singing an 80's song, for example) are the ones where the team behind Go puts their effort and heart into making an episode they believe everyone will be able to enjoy watching, but they insist in making Return of Slade, Getting Serious and that one about real states! It says a lot about a show when it is more concerned about enraging its critics than it is about making good episodes!

The original I found when TTG was in its second season. I watched it sometimes, so when I found TT on Boomerang and saw what it looked like, I immediately was captivated. The old animation was much better, more fluid, and could draw you in. The characters instantly had some recognizable- well character. Serious physical and emotional topics could be shown or talked about, and that was important if you were going to flesh out a team with a half-demon with the destiny to destroy the world, an alien who was stranded on earth intended to be a slave, a cyborg, and an orphan. None of the team members aside from beast boy would be totally emotionally sound in that regard. TTG actually wasn't too bad in its first and second seasons, there were a lot fewer fart jokes and the comedy was less mindless. There was some actual plot driving the episodes, even if it wasn't very interesting. Nowadays there's toilet humor on the regular, the characters are either stupid and immature or geniuses whether the plot demands it, and everything is mindless. While it makes fun of itself, sometimes in interesting ways, often it clearly is to avoid criticism by adults. There are still good parts, but the show overall isn't something I'd show to a kid, especially because morals in it are intended to be bad. My little brother watches a lot of it. I tell him not to though, that show is like TV junk food.
