Modern WH40K takes itself mostly seriously, but I loved Rogue Trader art because it was that kind of Robocop level cynicism that's awesome.

11:41 I think the helmet they're basing it on is the burganet or a sallet. They both have that back of the neck part, and it fits the guard, considering how many fantasy games I've seen where the town guards have something similar in design.

0:45 If you do a search for "Space Marine Rogue Trader Chapter Color" you'll see 2 pages from the Rogue Trader rulebook showing what the standards were for all those markings on power armor meant. There were specific markings for veterans, sergeants, veteran sergeants, lieutenant, captain. There were even shoulder pad stripes for enlisted and patterns for officers, as well as an icon for what weapon that Space Marine was issued. It was far more sophisticated than things became since 2nd edition which was way more streamlined and easier to hand paint. Hell, in Rogue Trader era, the service studs on Space Marine foreheads meant 10 years service per and not 100 in today's 40k.

The first Eldar designs you showed are now called Corsairs, and yes I play them and yes their paint scheme is inspired by the RT colour schemes, although I go for teal and warlock purple.

Here is an idea inspired by that artwork of an alien mushroom, a 40k game set on a world with lots of mold and giant fungus' growing all about like a forest. It would take some planning and work, but it would make for really cool gaming terrain! A mushroom forest on an alien world, any models without helmets will have to deal with the effects of spores, someone has to make this!

the neck mullet thing on the imperial army helmets is in reference to a real thing I dont know what its called but all the way back to the roman days their helmets often had neck protection like that, and likely several other civilizations had similar ideas so whatever it might be called it is atleast a legitimate armor concept

@maxbrandt620 күн бұрын
In the Rogue Trader era and before Battlefleet Gothic Eldar starships did indeed look like fish, you see them in one of those illustrations from the 1st edition rulebook, the one where the Eldar troopers have dragonfly wings. Oddly enough, in Codex Titanicus those were called Swooping Hawks, honest!
