You’re so right on setting aside time for hobbying; I’ve been doing that the last month or so and suddenly my Warriors of Chaos army is fully painted, just in time for an event on Saturday! Gonna do some touchups tonight and tomorrow but doing a little bit often is so helpful at making big projects fly by!

Yeah for sure! Chipping away every day is way less stressful than facing a day of painting trim too 😂 good luck with your event!

More terrain! Would love to see some old world boards etc if you enjoy it! Also with the wheat fields, a great idea is to make a square piece removable in the centre then on the 4 outer edges have single pieces of the wheat so when you get down on the table edge still looks like a wheat field then from above you can still see your units!

Thanks for your lovely TOW-content. I painted a few of these sets awhile ago and I also added moss to the stones with the recipe from Geek Gaming: you pass clum foliage through a siv and mix it with some pva glue, some matte medium and water. It really makes terrain pieces pop and breaks the kind of smoothness of large flat surfaces making them look more interesting imo :)
@MediocreHobbies6 ай бұрын
Ohh will have to try that out on something, thanks for that tip! 😊 glad you’re liking the old world content, lots more to come!

There's something really nice about all your videos painting things you WANT to paint, old and new, not always just the new thing (which of course, we get it, the algorithm and GW's creator connections create that, and thats fine!). Seeing personal passion is fun too mixed in so I love all the TOW/DoW/terrain stuff.
@MediocreHobbies6 ай бұрын
Yeah the new thing isn’t always the most exciting thing for me to be working on especially when I’m so into the old world right now! Glad you understand and hopefully as I grow bigger I can keep the balance more over to the passion side of things! Thanks man!

Worth trying an oil wash on terrain. Quick, cheap and beautiful for a board full of terrain.
@MediocreHobbies6 ай бұрын
I really need to learn that but it scares me.
@willb20496 ай бұрын
These look great - my only advice would be to add some additional washes to the stone and wood, in various shades of green or brown. It will help break up the large areas of grey. I did this on mine and it made a huge difference. I learnt this from the post on the Warscryer Citadel on Rob Hawkins' Hobby Blog.

We have a stack of scenery from Old Hammer, 40k and an old licensed game called Battle Masters I think. Anyway, when feeling really creative we use the 40k ruined church from 3rd Ed, the Tower from BM and the cementery (Cause lets face it, they're not going anywhere) to set up a ruined strong point and all the fences and walls to create country roads. The combatants have been 40k, old world skirmish and of late Bolt Action. It just works. But where you went brown with the fencing and gates, we treated them as aged and the wood has all silvered, so shades of grey it is. We also do have a bunch of stuff pending build and paint, even back to the Old World Castle.

I love all of that.

I tend to just make smaller stuff like this. I made a bunch of stone wall sections a couple years back. I made them look a bit more like the stacked stone walls you'd see in old farming country. The sort of thing where the walls were made of stacked up rocks farmers had cleared while plowing fields. And I made them out of three layers of cheap foam board that I drew the stone lines into with an ink pen. A bit of carving. Alternating stones like bricks. Some holes and gaps cut into them. Glued them to craft sticks that were basically tongue depressors. Added texture to the bases. Some dark tones, some washes, and a bit of drybrushing and they were done. You can use them to set up walls on a board for miniature combat games. But, because of how I made them and the different sizes I made, I can use them to lay out corridors for a dungeon crawl sort of D&D or RPG game. Cheap and pretty easy. I really need to make some more in another color scheme.

Somewhere in my pile of potential I have the resin ork barricades they did for 40k, I was given them by somebody that was getting rid of his ork army. Sadly I have still never started my own ork army and so I’ve never dug them out, one day lol.

Nice vid, I plan to make some walls out of either xps foam or maybe eva foam. Also foam board would work. Those kits are nice and if the price was right I'd probably buy some but a crafting project can be fun. As for scenery videos those techniques are always applyable across multiple genres so always worth a watch. Also I enjoy watching you paint stuff mate it makes me feel like my painting is more approachable. You've definitely started to take my own personal stress I used to find around painting away. Mainly I used to get fear of messing a piece up/ making poor model choices. Or that I had to paint every mini upto a high standard which would just cause so much stress for me. Now I'm enjoying putting down a basecoats and wash and taking it from there. Im not sure if it's just me but alot of other painting videos and social media content can make u feel like your not living upto the expectations of everyone else. You don't do that Andy, u make the hobby very accessible for everyone whilst still getting lovely looking models out for your army and boards. Keep going dude I'm glad I found your channel back over lockdown and although I wasn't really doing alot of gw games at the time I subbed and I'm glad I did. Thanks for helping me to find joy in my own hobby again.

It's unfortunate these aren't available anymore. The sculpts are so flavorful. Alas. If people want easy plastic fencing, even if not this distinct, Renedra manufacture fencing kits in a variety of styles. Including wood, and wattle (the "wicker" as described in this video). Renedra is also a great place to acquire tons of other terrain pieces, like buildings, gambions, bridges, etc.

I have been cleaning out my hobby closet through the spring; focusing on 40k 10th edition and finding homes for all my non-40k GW stuff. I just stumbled across 2 of these wall sets and the other foreground set you had at the beginning; two sets of the watch towers and the attachable houses. I never got any of the larger/newer towers you had in the background. Maybe my next Combat Patrol will take place in an Old World village...
