Old World Diaries: Dwarfen Mountain Holds! How to paint the Runesmith!

They are finally almost here. Dwarven Mountains Holds from Warhammer for The Old World is the latest drop and I dug out my Runesmith to get painted for you guys while we all wait for our Dwarfen deliveries! I'll be doing some more Dwarf tutorials for you if you guys are interested so make sure to let me know what you'd like to see!

• Old World Goodness
Basing scheme:
AK Terrain Dark Earth texture paste
Ryza Rust (dry) brush
Screaming Skull (layer) dry brush
Here's how and why I prime the way I do!
Two different rattle/spray cans are used-one full solid coat of black, and a lighter coat of grey seer sprayed from above to add light/dark areas. The lighter coating of grey seer adds a small amount of grit(too small for the eye to see) from to give the contrast paint a better surface to cling too. Contrast paints don’t work well on black primers, the colours won’t show up well.

Yes I really appreciate all The Old World content. Want more Orcs and Goblins, but I'll take what I can get. And to answer your question about whether you should talk about what color you paint or give some background to the model, I think you had a very good balance in this video for those new to your channel, but for those of us who have been following you for a while I can appreciate Lore a little more. Regardless, I appreciate your videos, I've learned a lot from them, both technically and Lore-wise. Also want to say that this dwarf looks absolutely amazing. As I'm getting close to finishing my current three armies I think Dwarves will be the next one I'll be jumping on unless GW surprises us with a whole new army.

I think both the lore and the painting breakdowns are great. Personally I'm colorblind, and Citadel's paint names are a nightmare so I appreciate when you talk during the layering process and you mention what color it's bringing out and helping pop haha

I agree with what several have said the mix is good. I think new people to your channel need the painting tutorials and that’s why they clicked, but those who have been watching now already paint minis in “your style” so no tutorial is needed for us but the lore is awesome. I find myself wanting to buy/ play/ paint based off of the lore of a model “why are they cool?” Which is awesome to hear. But how the model looks and how you got it to look like that will always have value imo.

I enjoy the discussion of the lore, and I think more discussion of the painting or modelling is only really necessary when using a new or modified technique, as it's easy to intuit what's going on through the visuals. Thank you for doing so many Old World videos, and it is frustrating how GW have taken an inconsistent approach to supporting the game

I like the lore part, maybe at minis that we have seen less than space marine we could get a little more painting guidance, but like spacemarines, dwarfs or other "generic" stuff, the lore part is great!
