I did not know you could add vinegar & have the plant survive.. Lots of people these days are mixing vinegar,Epsom salt & dish soap for a weed killer .. Maybe you are using apple cider vinegar? I have been using egg shells for years & it really helps keep the blossom end rot away. I had 110 plants back in 2016 & all summer i only had 2 tomato's that had blossom end rot & that's because i had ran out of egg shells & had to transplant a couple of plants due to a rabbit.Also where can i buy "Green Sand "at ? Thank you for your videos !

This year is my first garden...alone. My mom and grandma are both gone. I had high hopes.. I bought three tomato plants to surprise my husband because he lives them so....but, I really had no idea how involved planting them would be. Not I'm not so sure. Are ALL of these steps necessary? I can't begin to guess where to get "green sand" from. ....geez.

I planted my tomatoes Tuesday using your techniques but half of them have died! I was unable to locate azomite at any of my local feed and seed stores but got most of the other steps down to the letter. I'm on the gulf coast and it's been perfect weather so I'm stumped as to what happened. I waited over 30 minutes to apply the vinegar/egg shell mixture. My compost isn't ready but I used earthworm castings, the exact tomato fertilizer, bone meal, and Epsom salt. Any idea what went wrong? I've been growing my tomatoes from seeds since February and I'm so sad they are dead now. It looks like they had round up sprayed on them 😢.
@OldAlabamaGardener6 жыл бұрын
Mrs L, I am so sorry that your plants died. I know what it is like to spend so much time growing them from seeds. If you have any plants still alive, take them out of the soil and wash the roots well with plain water. perhaps you can save some of them. Only if I were there, would I might know what happened. OAG
@lesliewilliams50236 жыл бұрын
OldAlabamaGardener thank you for the help. I still have 2 of 8 that are hanging on. I just wonder if the vinegar got them.. I waited for the mixture over 30 minutes but who knows, may have still been too acidic. I'll take the remaining 2 out and start over from there. Luckily I have 2 still in pots and I bought 3 more, so I should be good to go again. 😊

☺️👍hi Charles , another great instruction video ☺️ you are full of knowledge . I like how you explain things so simply . How long have you been gardening ?
@OldAlabamaGardener9 жыл бұрын
Krittika J Thanks KJ for your encouragement. Your question: How long have I been gardening? My mother and father were gardeners so I began as soon as I was able to do things, even if it was only pulling weeds. I probably started as a child of maybe 7 years old. I am now 75 years old. But for real gardening on my own, I have been gardening big time since 1974 (about 40 years). Some of the things I have tried over the years didn't work or didn't work well, but that is what learning is all about. I am still learning and will continue.As to explaining things simply, that is my way. I do my videos as if those who view them are just learning to garden.

Do you till the soil between the rows and pull up more soil on the plants as the season progresses?this year I had a tough time with my tomatoes being limp and the leaves browning and full of spots.
@OldAlabamaGardener7 жыл бұрын
Hi Melissa and welcome to my channel. No, in this garden area I don't till between the rows. I have weed block material stretched out and pinned down to prevent weeds and grass from grown. Most every one had trouble this year growing tomatoes. I think we just had too much rain and it kept raining every few days well into August. Wet weather causes the bacteria and fungal wilt to multiply rapidly and destroy the tomato plants. I have't produced enough tomatoes to can any this year. Thanks for watching my videos. OAG

Wow, that is a lot of tomatoes. I really need to start using the molasses again.
@OldAlabamaGardener9 жыл бұрын
superslyfoxx1 How you been doing? Yes, that is a lot of tomatoes but only about half of what I want to plant. I grow lots of tomatoes because when I begin canning tomatoes and tomato juice I want to can 20 or 30 jars at a time, not 4 or 5 jars at a time. I like to get my tomato canning done then we just eat fresh tomatoes for the rest of the season. And of course I give some away.

Hi Carrie, I buy some plants as soon as they become available, then pot them up in 1 gallon pots, protect them through the cold snaps and that is why they look and are so good.I just potted up 40 or so Rutgers that I grew from seed. I have 5 trays of english peas about 1 inch tall. I'll get it all planted! Yep, when you look at my videos you can see a man who loves to get his hands in the dirt!
