I've completed sign with inset letters, outset numbers (with Eric's) cloud outline, with full picture in the center (~ 5x9) using freezer paper. Color pic turned out perfect!! I made sure to tape down all sides so pic did not move while using wooden spoon to rub in all directions. To get all ink to transfer and show up nice, you must run in all directions (vertical, horiz, both angled). Picture just adds another element to our router carved signs (plus it easily adds some color). Thanks Eric for sharing all your learned secrets (tricks of the trade)!

I just started using the freezer paper a couple weeks ago and it really does work great! I love your idea of a flatter wood spoon. Thanks so much for the additional tips on using freezer paper - a wonderful, easy, cheap process. Also, very fun and educational to watch how you use your light up and down touch on carving the detail. Thanks again for all you teach us.

Attempted my very first router carving on pine. I used a drill master 120 volt 1/4" trim router and the bit I used was a 1/4 straight bit, only because they didn't have a profile bit. I know I'll need a better router and bits eventually, but I was just trying g this out for size to see if its something I'd like to eventually do and I'M SO IN!!! It's not great but it give me a feel for the handling of the router and the figuring out the best depth for the bit. Thanks for all the videos and great advice.

I like the freezer paper idea. What I've been doing is to print the design on regular white paper, then use charcoal on the reverse side to follow the design. Then I place that on the wood, and trace it with a pencil. THEN... you have to trace it again on the wood, over the charcoal because if you don't when you use the router, it erases the charcoal. Several steps more than freezer paper! :)

Another method that works is the one done by Aceman on KZbin, and I have tested it using freezer paper and it does work. The idea of drying it in the sun for hours was nice but it was night, and it was cold, so I just dried it all inside, and I only waited until it was actually dry, not hours. I tested it on text - I have a Tshirt Transfer setting on my printer that does the flipping for me, but it flips everything, so I have to flip the images that I want but leave the text as is. Print on the side with glue, and the image on my inkjet appeared glossier than on regular paper. (I found this out by printing on the wrong side, but I just flipped it over after that was dry and did it on the correct side. Materials were Krylon Matte clear spray from Walmart, Elmers Glue All, not the washable stuff, and freezer paper. After printing, and letting it dry for a while, I did have to see if the ink smeared, and it didn't. And after I put the image face down onto the second coat of glue - the wet one - I only waited until the glue above my image was dry. My test was text, and it came out looking as sharp and clear as the Inkjet Tshirt Transfer paper left them, but it was easier and no ironing. My impatience could have screwed things up, but after the paper treatment dried overnight (spray and one coat of glue), my whole test took about 90 minutes. I do small stuff, so although the freezer paper is supposed to be reuseable, I cut my images out so I have to make another sheet for more images, but I have a sheet full of them to use first...

Thank you, thank you, Dave Rhoten, and the one who sent this tip. I needed something like this to help me pay some bills. Guess Jesus seems to always shine the light, "knock and the door shall be answered..." and "seek ye the kingdom first, and all shall be added unto you." What a way to "freeze" an image.

I ordered the freezer paper you used on the fish video when you did a comparison, I am getting frustrated because no matter what I try the wood grain keeps coming through and it looks horrible.. can please give me a thorough tutorial on how to prep the wood? Or tell me what I’m doing wrong. My husband put the wood (pine) through a plainer and sanded it and the wood grain and fine white line come through because of the wood grain! Please recommend something! Thank you

I'd use an iron to transfer the image, it is after all the friction heat that 'melts' the wax on the freezer paper that transfer the image. But a very good idea no matter what .

I just came across your video again but this time watched one all the way through. My other videos were in regard to leatherworking and burnishing and all that kind of good stuff. I’m just trying to figure out what it is I want to do. I’ve always been an artistic person and I’ve tried many things; photography pencil art, making leather leashes a long LIVE rifle straps and dog collars. I was thinking even using my Dremel on the leather so that is what I’ve been doing recently YouTubing videos about that (Pyrography). I have always drawn free handed with anything I’ve done. But what you hear did on this video is amazing, I really do like it and you did a wonderful job at representing it so just about anybody could understand it. Thank you sir for a great video, will look forward to seeing moreOr trying to backtrack to all the others that you have put out there already. Happy New Year 2018, May you and your family have a great year and don’t look back!

Eric, a laser printer (I have a wifi laser printer by brother - HL-L2360D) is about $100. To say my funds are limited would be an understatement. The main reason I invested in it, was the cost difference (per sheet) when printing. The best part? My ink doesn't dry up like inkjets like to do; no clogging of the print heads, etc. Not to mention that my toner lasts a lot longer than the inkjets, too. To get to the point: (Sorry, got sidetracked - *SQUIRREL*) You made a comment about the toner process and using lacquer thinner, and chemicals to transfer patterns. (saw your video from May, and decided to "run my mouth" here, rather than there, but may post there, too lol). With many thanks to a router friend, a few years ago, we found the transfer process with laser printers, and instead of the lacquer thinner, and other harmful chemicals, I use Wintergreen Oil. This process to me, has been the best way to transfer my patterns without losing my lines. When I used the inkjet with wax paper, or freezer paper, I had no luck with it. It smeared off. Just my two cents, and shame on me, I've been lacking in watching your videos. Since my initial interest in making signs, and after learning from you and your dad, I've let your videos go to the wayside. You've changed a few things, and just as in the beginning, I'm learning a few tricks/ideas on refining my sign making.

Hi Eric or Hey Bill what do you mean by "using the paper as a follower" tape it don't glue it"?
@oldave100
@oldave100 7 жыл бұрын
So I've been experimenting with taping the freezer paper to a regular piece of paper. Here's what I did. I used scotch tape and and taped the freezer paper all the way along the leading edge that's feeding into the printer to a piece of regular paper so they act as one piece. It worked good... Then I separate them after the copy is made. hope this makes sense. I'l make a video on this soon.
