Brilliant video and really fair. I personally love both games too, and even though I should be slightly biased, I can't say enough good things about Basic Fantasy. , It has been a huge inspiration and I've got literally everything they've released on my shelves. My suggestion would be to get both PDFs, they're free, and see what fits your group best. With very little effort you can peel and stick from both games, it's your table, and your game makes something that you love.

I really think Chris should do a premium hardcover of some of them with a larger markup just so that people can opt into paying him what I think he deserves. Maybe some cool gold and silver stuff and slightly different covers. Just an edition of the corebook that is made to be bought by people that want to give him some extra cash. A 30$ premium book would be appeal to more fans than I think he realizes. Maybe a nice premium hardcover of all 3 adventure anthologies in a single volume. Stuff like that.

I like the backgrounds and feats in OSReign , I'm making a class for a Basic Fantasy game that utilizes the backgrounds from OSReign. I might make it a subclass that has feats you can expand on based on your main class. I recommend both games, and combine them if you want

I've got Basic but discovered OSR today and bought the core and Players Guide. Good review thank you.

Decide? choose? you can do that? I just seem to pick them all up. And all "D&D" is compatibatable to a degree with a little fiddling.

Great stuff. I think you understated the fact that both games are extremely affordable at well under $10. I’m someone who likes having something in print as opposed to just pdf so with games like these which are so great, I want to have them in print

Love your comparison videos! This is a new one to me. Any chance you could do a Swords & Wizardry one? Or like one big OSR video comparing all the ones you've played?

That may be a project I look at doing actually. People seem to really like Vs. Videos.

Nice video. Both games are good, but Olde Swords Reign really has intrigued me lately. I would enjoy seeing videos from you about how well the Olde Swords Reign rules work at your table. Have you and your players found more flexibility with these rules? A video that shows examples of what kind of player characters were built using the OSE rules would be fun to see. What does OSE do better than other rules sets? Actual play examples from your table would be interesting to hear.

I have not. Honestly the price has kept me away.

It's a fantastic game, but honestly at this point the shadow of Dragonslayer is looming over it. DS has the potential of becoming the defacto BX in my mind. OSE has one key weakness in that there are too many dead levels in progression.@@AdventuresWithDice

Really making me lean towards OSR even though I've been an old AD&D player since the start and didn't care for 5e...this may just be the bridge gap to get into those mechanics. That said, the amount of ads in the video were awful and almost made the video unwatchable. One is trying to absorb the information and having to backtrack because there's some dumb Tiktok or Temu ad right in the middle of important information.

I suggest downloading either for free and checking them out. As far as the ads... I don't have control over what ads they place and never see them myself. I just agree to let them run ads and I get a fraction of a penny when they do. At least that's what it seems like. For me it's important to let them run ads, it takes awhile before I have enough banked that I can even draw it out. They take like 30% and then don't let us draw it out until we have at least $100 in there. In about 2 more months I should be able to make my first withdrawal and that money can go towards a new camera. I get it. I hate ads too, but I gotta make my tens of dollars where I can to fund this. I don't know how much you watch YT but I do a lot, so for me it was worth getting KZbin Premium to not see any ads.
