This collection sounds wonderful! I like the Egyptian and Renaissance the best but they are all amazing. The jazz flute is fantastic. Reminds me of Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson.

i have some questions: 1.what species of bamboo do you use most, and how old are the stalks you use? 2. do you burn-dry the bamboo and if yes with what? 3. do you use a finger hole calculator? and if yes which one? if no, do you just experiment? 4. how do/did you get your information? 5. what tools do you use? hand or mechanical? do you stop the bamboo from splitting?

Hi Ench: I am so sorry I have not responded. I do every day on my email. This is 8 months late and i only now saw your letter. Please email me at info@eriktheflutemaker.com 1) I use mostly Bambusa Multiplex. Some Barbalata Chunggi, some textilis gracillis. 2) I fire-treat with beeswax. 3) I have learned via trial and error. And now use an electronic tuner at 72 degrees. 4) into this for 49 years. info comes. info learned. 5) I use saws, hot irons, sand paper, steel wool. and more. Erik

Beautiful music Erik. Thanks for for your beautiful music. Wondering how would you compare the counselor to the vivaldi?? Thank you in advance. Take care and God bless you...

Yesterday I had an order for a Counselor Flute and when I went to play the one I picked for a lady in France with smaller holes my nice acoustical room filled with gorgeous music! It almost took my breath away. It is warmer and deeper than the Vivaldi. A more solemn character. That said the chirpy classical Vivaldi flute has been with me for years and has become one of my favorites. It has a beautiful free flowing creative expression that seems like it's always ready to sing and play something new. Also very classical European feel and seems to have a glad heart. I love that flute. Both have their personality. Erik

curious the diffeence between the arabian flute and the egyptian ???
@ErikTheFlutemakerCom4 жыл бұрын
Please keep in mind that I am not formerly trained in music. But this month September 2020, I celebrate 50 years of flutemaking. So what I share is my take. There is a mysterious feel to the Egyptian Flute. Almost a theatrical presence on it that is very story telling and ancient and for me sometimes spiritual as it reminds me of Jesus on the ground right in front of me, but long ago. The Arabian Flute sounds very Middle East. If I was in a nice acoustical tunnel for an hour and given the choice between the Arabian or Egyptian flute to take, it would be the Egyptian. My inspiration for the Egyptian Flute came when I was gifted an Egyptian Ney with 6 holes and a back hole. After making this into a side blown flute so I could play it as the Ney is hard to play for the western customer, 2 notes did not resonate with my western way of expressing music and I found by removing those 2 notes I had an amazing instrument in my hand and what I call "my" Egyptian Flute. Very poetic. As to the Arabian Flute, I heard it was a Turkish scale inspired by Arabian music that moved into Eastern Europe and influenced Gypsy music and the Klezmer music of the Eastern European Jewish community. The Arabian Flute has a pinky hole, the Egyptian has a back hole. Both can take you to an Oasis. But one may have a camel, a breeze and a palm tree there while the other a very cool connection with one who leaves footsteps in the heart. Erik
