Nice Florida rust free boat. That's why I love living in Florida. No rust to deal with when doing brakes or any other job requiring work underneath the vehicles. I did enough of that when I lived in Nw Pennsylvania.

When it's time to do water pump replace the retarded nylon over aluminum timing set with double row 3 keyway timing set and use the advanced keyway for better low end power and economy. Only use non ethanol gas. Clean the seat switches they sometimes catch fire if you don't. Keep a spare module in it.

Outstanding purchase - beautiful car, and you really want the 460. The 400 had tons of torque, but it's not a 460. Glad these cars are getting saved by you KZbinrs. I have a few older "regular" cars" myself, and I love driving them and get as many thumbs up as the muscle cars. Lot cheaper to buy, too........

These Malaise era cars were a lot better than people remember. Although no one cares, the reason power fell off was because the emissions that came out of the tailpipe were reduced by around 90%. Lead was eliminated completely, NoX was down by 90%, and carbon monoxide was greatly reduced as well. Power output fell, sure, but the cars were far less toxic to the environment. They didn’t just get slower in the 70’s, they got much cleaner and the ignition systems, brakes and transmissions (no more 2 speed automatics) got better too. Malaise era cars are great deals, and if you desire, you can advance the timing on the dizzy, slap on a 1970 timing set to advance the bump stick and fatten up jets on the carb. Again, great buy on this one.

Pretty sure the brake light is an issue with the pressure differential valve doing it's job. If it senses a loss of brake pressure in front or rear systems the piston inside will move off-center and cause the brake light to illuminate. To fix-KOEO and press the brake pedal several times to re-set the piston. Key off and test the brake pedal for firm resistance then road test to ensure the light goes off indicating the piston has centered itself.
@OldeCarrGuy12 күн бұрын
That makes sense! We'll have to give that a try.

Interesting. Thank you for that information. We will try it!!!

On these cars what is often the case is power steering pump seal leakage and also any rubber sections of the lines dry out and seep leaving a steady drip . One winter being housebound due to ice and snow I used the time to install a rebuild kit which stopped the leak and the grinding sound. You have a nice find there and looks like not too much work to get her back in top shape. Congrats !

I'm sure you did, but I'll ask anyway. Check the fluid level in the master cylinder? Also, some Fords from that era had a switch in the proportioning valve that turns the brake light on if the front or rear side of the system is over-pressured. What a boat! Looks like you guys had fun.
@OldeCarrGuy13 күн бұрын
We had a blast when we get together. Yes we did check the brake fluid in the master. I chalked it up to air in the hydroboost as we ran it dry a time or two.

Great little project. I was worried when you took the oil filter off and almost nothing came out. I have a 78 T-bird and put it away in January 2000 after changing all fluids/greasing with Mobil 1 and flushing the brake system and radiator. The oil is still full but the radiator and brake reservoir are now low. Have no idea what I’ll find but only worried about the coolant. Hope it’s just the radiator like in your case. One of these days I have to investigate and see if it can be driven again.

Seems like a really nice Lincoln but one thing I have to say is, those black wall tires do not do that car any justice. Just some thin white walls would be perfect
