I just got an overdose of classic jet liners. Glorious days, now we fly like sardines

I miss these planes so much. They all had character.

Great memories of my early spotting days at Gatwick. Without doubt my favourite aircraft at the time was the VC10. Very distinctive sound when taxiing!

DC8−61, I often worked loading cargo when JAL was using it. I was energized by the roar of that tremendous starter along with the -50 series. I'll never forget that sound.

The loud sounds actually was the APU bleeding air to the turbine, once all engines were running, the loud noise will go away. I used to load UPS and Transamerica DC8 60s back in the early 80s

It's a barking noise related to the pneumatic starter and intermittent clutch. The same thing happens with the F-15 and Tu-154B.

Some of these aircraft were around in the 1970s and 1980s and I flew on several of them. That period was the cusp of big changes coming, the A320 first flying in the late 1980s and still a staple of many airlines around the world.

I went on one of those Adria air DC9s on holiday to Yugoslavia with my parents when I was 4 years old!

OH MY 😍😍 I WISH this was longer. I’ve never seen some of these airlines, and I’ve always wondered what 1970’s and 80’s airline livery looked like.

loved the court line bac 1-11 .

I've encountered many BAC 1-11s taking off. Those RR Spey engines were extremely deafening to hear in full takeoff power and I could feel the ground shaking.

How ridiculously long the DC-8-70 was 😄

Yup, Just so incredibly beautiful/elegant, 187 feet long with six abreast seating I wonder how close to structural failure they would come in heavy turbulence, but as far as I know (without researching) none suffered structural failure?

These are super dc8-61 or 63s. The 70 series were re-engined 61s and 63s.

It would have been nicer of you had identified the models shown. I didn't see a Caravelle or a Comet, but was there a Convair in the mix?
@classicairlineractionfromavion10 ай бұрын
There is an Air France Caravelle on the ground. There is a Dan Air Comet in Older Jets 01 here kzbin.info/www/bejne/mHSuaYqhitGHi6s. You can see a CV880 in my clip here kzbin.info/www/bejne/lXiWgJ1oeqlmp5o Best regards Howard
