Very interesting the Tlaxcalan Indians helped the Spanish defeat the Aztecs in 1520. After the Aztecs were defeated the Tlaxcalans went on to help claim the rest of the Americas for Spain. Since they knew nahautl, the local language they were well suited for translation. It is fascinating to see one of their churches so far north.

Thanks so much for the information on the Tlaxcalans. You may be able to tell by my stumbling over the name that it caught me by surprise! I was unaware of some of their history at the time, although I did learn about it in school. That was many years ago now! 🤣🤣 When I watched the first (your latest) video of yours I was impressed by some of the knowledge of you and your father, about the early Mexican Indigenous cultures. Years ago, Kathy and I spent some time in Mexico in various places. But not in the normal tourist places for long. (mainly just flew in though them because that's where the cheap flights were to) Then we would rent usually 4wd vehicles and just explore the jungles. We saw some wonderful ruins, charming towns and met some great folks as we went along! Back then it was safe to do so. Would love to do it again, but I'm unsure of the safety in places anymore. Thanks so much for coming along with us to Santa Fe!

@@TravelingTramps unfortunately due to the narco activity you have to be careful about going into the jungle in Mexico these days. It is possible, but you have to know the right people. Don't feel too bad about the pronunciation, those nahautl names can be very hard to pronounce. A lot of times they have combination of letters that don't fit the normal pronunciation. Hi Dave and Kathy. Stunning structure of the oldest church in the USA. The way the original structure was presented is very unique but necessary to preserve. She truly was, Gene. She was raised very Catholic, but today because of her Alzheimer's she get's quite confused. She knows she should be taking the time to pray, but isn't able to gather her thoughts. This bothers her and can be very sad. She's aware of what's happening. A well preserved piece of architecture, whether you are religious or not you can always appreciate the work that went into building it in the first place and the restoration work since. We visited the church of San Miguel Arcángel in Torremolinos, Spain when we holidayed there last year, it too has some very ornate features inside and was built a little later than yours in Santa Fe - a more modern build dating from 1718!
