I actully got to meet him at a lecture. Even at his age. He was sharp as a tack. An a great sence of humor. He had my whole group in stiches. Great man that will be hard to beat.

There was a Vietnam Vet from the same tribe who completed 3 of the four requirements, but was unable to steal and enemy's horse due to horses not being used by the North Vietnamese.

They covered it at the end. It was the nephew that stole the two elephants. Not that I have a right to an opinion, but it seems like consideration to updating the requirements might be given. (Did War Chiefs not exist prior to the Spanish bringing horses?). On the other hand saying the "rules" mean something and can't be changed on a whim is admirable.

@@gk5891 I'm not a historian, but from what I understand one of the biggest problems with the history of Native American tribes is that a good number of their mythologies are oral only with no written language. So when 93% of the natives peoples died off from the diseases brought by Europeans at the same time as the horses, a lot of the original traditions would have been lost or changed. We may never truly know what pre-Columbian American Plains culture was like due to how the diseases and animals brought from Europe changed their culture before written accounts of their culture could be done.

I served with a crow in Iraq. He talked all the time about getting to northern Iraq or Afghanistan, where some horses were used. In 05, he'd told us all this story, and he wanted a horse, but he never got an opportunity.

Are you talking about Jeannette Rankin, the only person to vote against the war declaration after Pearl? That wasn't due to her blaming the US for it. She was a diehard pacifist. In her own words, "As a woman, I can't go to war, and I refuse to send anyone else." She had also voted against the resolution to get into World War I. The ancestors of what would become the various NA tribes started coming to the Americas rougly 20000 years ago, bringing some of their own cultures with them. Respect for tradition and the old ways tends to be quite strong. Thus, "it's not a horse" is in fact, an important distinction. It doesn't have anything to do with difficulty, but the importance of the horse in the culture in which the rule was made. Disrespect the rules, disrespect your ancestors.
