@@brothersgt.grauwolff6716 Reason why you speak softly and carry a big stick. You never yell. Let those of the HOA screech and dig themselves a deeper hole. The stick is there to give them that little nudge to fall into the hole they dug for themselves. As the HOA, can't do shit, unless you allow them to have the power over you. And if need be. The stick is also there to crack open heads. But, that is a last resort and by that point, it is self-defense. Never be the one swinging first. Even if most states do not believe in self-defense. Still, have that right regardless of what the States say. As is a right, and no state law can override that right. No, matter how hard they try.

17:00 Here's another time something like that happened: During Obama's presidency, there was an incident where he was attending the funeral of a soldier being buried at Arlington, and the Westboro Baptist Church showed up to do their thing. Well, as was usual by that time, a bunch of people showed up to counter protest and shield the mourners from Westboro. Among the counter-protestors were several members of the local chapter of the KKK, lead by the local...whatever their local leaders are, something wizard. They're supposedly Christian but also into a bunch of weird new age mystical shit, I dunno. Anyway, when interviewed about their participation he said, "it's a damn shame people like that would show up here." Like, just how wrong do you have to be before the KKK looks at the BLACK president of the UNITED STATES (and keep in mind, the KKK was formed as a faction of organized confederate holdouts), looks at you, and says, "Nah, you're too hardcore for us, we're with the black guy on this one."

I remember the HOA that found a family was housing homeless relatives in their garage. So the HOA put out a new rule that people had to have their garages wide open from like 6am-8pm (not sure exact hours but just doing an example). They also fined people every day they weren’t open despite the owners complaints about rampant thefts that immediately happened.

The "HOA" I grew up with wasn't too bad, but that was because we were a small ranching community about half an hour outside a town of about 60k, we all paid in to keep the roads up etc, and only stepped into people's business when it properly was affecting their neighbors and the two families couldn't settle it themselves. The HOA I moved to in college was a damned nightmare that literally cost me $7k in fees for parking MY project car in MY private space for being unregistered... Tried to fight the fees and only cost me more, $7k all said and done AND the fuckers used the case to pull my security deposit when I moved out at the end of my lease. Safe to say I'm glad I'm in the sticks again with my own acreage

You don't usually join an HOA voluntarily. In certain areas pretty much all the houses are in one and if you have an HOA you sign documents agreeing only to sell the house to someone who will agree to be in the HOA. It all starts with either one person per house wanting it or a housing development wass built and the HOA was designed as part of planning the neighborhood. In short nearly everyone in an HOA didn't have a say. My house is not in an HOA, and if one forms in my area, I will refuse to my grave to join it. If I sell the house, the next person would get to make that choice for themselves instead of it being forced on them.

HOAs can help build a nice community in ways that it would be difficult normally. My grandparents live in one, and in the years that they have lived there the money collected let them build a neighborhood park that they keep in great condition and upgrade every few years. Any time bad storms hit they help pay part or all of the repairs, lots of general maintenance to make sure everything is working and looking nice. The people in it are fine. Generally look after each other. It really just depends on what you want. A good HOA can provide support, stability, and a better community. Personally, if I pay hundreds of thousands of dollars for a house... it's mine. If I want to burn it to the ground for the forth of July then I will be damned if some hoa try to stop me.

imagine basically being the main character of your own epic story of war and your team... just to come home and eventually one day a bunch of dickheads show up and say "you can't plant your nation's flag in your yard". I mean seriously... americans may not be the brightest or best people around but I feel like most of them love their veterans and flag, so screwing with both is definitely a quick way for everyone to turn into a horde of angry goblins who are just eager to skin your organization alive for having the audacity.

Well certain houses are under the authority of the HOA. Meaing you have to pay extra fees and sign an agreement before yiu can buy the house and move in, even if they dont own it. The main purpose is to keep the property values of the neighborhood high as most of the HOAs are in nice areas with appreciating real estate values. Most of them buy not just a home but an investment. The HOA has no real legal authority to bar someone from doing anything. Courts have ruled on that several times. Unless it can be proven by getting several appraisals throughout the neighborhood that something on a particular residents house is bringing down the property value of everyone else. Even then the court will just make them repaint or fix whatever issue is devaluing the property

Going by family word-of-mouth, because the majority of the men in my family have served (I couldn't for medical reasons), you are exactly correct. The good officers knew they needed the NCOs on their side, and backing them, if they wanted to get anything done well, or fast. As one of my favorite webcomics of all time, Schlock Mercenary, says, "A sergeant in motion outranks a lieutenant who doesn't know what's going on." And further, "An ordnance technician at a dead run outranks everybody." The last line, btw, is very true. Every old person has to get there by living, and they've all seen some shit at one point or another. Underestimate them at your peril.

Just for some clarification. HOA started so that rich people could keep their neighborhoods constantly increasing in value. This allowed for constant upward trades of homes and maintaining a high level of appreciation on the houses. That's all it was started for. In theory its a great idea because once you got to that level you would be basically flipping houses for marginal profit every couple years. While maintaining property value is still at the base of most HOA'S, curb appeal, and mob mentality have become the majority. If you don't fit in you will be bullied out. If you don't conform or agree they can rally and literally take your house form you. They are ONLY about control and anyone who joins one is an idiot. Giving another entity legal authority to put a lein on your house over 1/4inch of grass growth is fucking ridiculous.

A different story, my dad was once stationed with a guy that got the medal of honor. They got a new commander, and he wanted to see everyones ribbons, and medals spread out on their beds for some detail inspection. This, in my dads words, "this kid just put the medal of honor on his bed." The commander tried giving him shit about it, where his other ribbons and stuff? The kid basically told him that was all he needed. The commander moved. So, some HOA telling a medal of honor recipient he couldn't fly the American flag? How could they NOT expect backlash? Especially since a recipient can tell a General to take a flying leap.

My father and my Stepmother once bought a piece of property in Illinois, and that tract of land was an HOA that was pretty much defunct, after I got out of the Military, I lived with my dad and stepmom for a short time while I got my feet back under me, and I had a hot rod, that there was not enough room in the garage for it to be parked there, and this stupid HOA, decided that they did not like the looks of my hot rod out front, and sent my dad a letter informing him of a fine they were going to levy against him, when he told me about it, I asked him. WHY do you put up with this crap from these people? he just said that it is an HOA and there was nothing that he could do about it, I told my dad, not to worry, I will take care of it, that night at 3 A.M. I fired up my hot rod, which was VERY LOUD, and cruised through the neighborhood very slowly revving the engine and waking EVERYONE up, adults, retirees, children and babies, and just to make CERTAIN that everyone was awake, I rolled through a couple more times until the lights were on in EVERY HOUSE. then went back to my dads house, as we looked out the back windows, we saw as slowly everyone turned their lights out and went back to bed, and I fired up the hot rod and did it again, they were so pissed, that the next day when the "PRESIDENT" of the HOA showed up and my dads door, he did not notice me working on my hot rod with my pistol on my hip, he yelled and dad for a minute, and my dad told him to come talk to me, as he was striding across the lawn and screaming at me, I REALLY enjoyed seeing his attitude change drastically when I turned around and he finally saw the pistol on my hip, I asked him what the problem was, and he somewhat calmly told me that stunt that I did the night before, would not be tolerated anymore, I then got right in his face and told him that threatening me is the WRONG tact to take, and if he did not like the events of 3 A.M. he was really going to hate tonight, so at 1 A.M. I fired up the hot rod, and did it again, then at 2 A.M. then at 3 A.M. all the way till 7 A.M on the hour every hour, he somehow got an emergency hearing and 2 days later I was in court explaining to a judge why I was acting as I was, at the end of the hearing, the judge told me that from now on, I will NOT be allowed to drive my hot rod through the neighborhood after the sun goes down, so I went home and called up 5 of my friends who also have very loud hot rods and told them I would pay for their gas if they would drive slowly through the neighborhood 3 times during the night, which they did, IT WAS NOT ME so I could not get in trouble for it, is what I thought, but there I was back in court to answer for the 5 guys that was doing the exact same thing as I did in the first place, I would not tell the judge their names even when he threatened to throw me in jail, but I promised that they would not do it again, so that night I jumped on my Harley at midnight and went for a very loud ride through the neighborhood every hour on the hour and back in front of the judge I was again, he then instructed me that I was not to drive ANY loud vehicles through the neighborhood after dark, BUT my younger brother who has a different love of cars then me, he is into hearses, had an electrically driven air raid siren that he was planning on mounting in one of his hearses, I asked him if I could borrow it, and mounted it to a board on top of dads mini van, and at midnight went for a drive through the neighborhood, the vehicle is very quiet, but the siren was not, and back on front of the judge I was again, and this time he FINALLY asked me WHY I was doing what I was doing, and I laid it out for him, that there was effectively 7 houses out of the original 42 that was trying to enforce HOA rules when the HOA went bankrupt more than a decade earlier, and they were a bunch of bitches that wanted control over other peoples lives, telling them what they could and could not do with the property that they were paying for WITHOUT any assistance from the HOA, what color they could paint their house, ECT. by then, the entire neighborhood was exhausted, because I was not letting anyone sleep, and he asked me what it would take for me to stop figuring out ways to make lots of noise and keeping the neighborhood awake all night, so I told him, the bankrupt HOA needs to be forgotten about, and these 7 houses needs to pay attention to their own property and not worry about everyone else's, because I know a few guys with raised 4 wheel drives that MIGHT want to come do some unplanned yard work soon, the judge told me not to do that because that would be physical damage and he would hold me accountable, I told him that I do not have a 4 wheel drive and I would not be doing anything, so he told us to go home and figure it out without involving him again, my dad got a letter in the mail the next day inviting him to an HOA meeting at the park on Saturday, when we showed up, ALL the property owners in the neighborhood was there, and this "PRESIDENT" started talking, and almost all of the residents did not have any clue about the defunct HOA in the first place, none of them had paid any dues, EVER, and suddenly they went from being pissed off at me, to being pissed off at this moron trying to put down rules like he was Joseph Stalin, as he was realizing that he was NOT going to hold the HOA together, about a dozen of my friends drove by in their jacked up 4X4's and drove through the entire neighborhood and looked around, those 7 Karen's finally got the hint, that I would keep raising the stakes till they gave up their dreams of neighborhood domination, so at the end of the meeting they all voted to disband the HOA and let it rest on the ash heap of history. that is how I beat my dads HOA a long time ago.

We've owned one house that was part of an HOA. It's what drove us out, luckily we found a buyer that though they are great. I can understand the purpose of not letting a property turn into a junkyard, but when they try to micro manage your life it's to much. Our experience was that it wasn't the husbands of the HOA board that were the problem, but the busy body wives "KARENS" that were on a power trip. As for trying to fuck with a CMH recipient, that's just a new level of stupid. Now living in rural central Wisconsin and an SAL member of the local American Legion Post I know from experience that if someone would try to stop anyone from flying the American flag; veteran or not, the Legion, VFW and local authorities would get involved. Now a days even the suburbs aren't far enough away from the big cities.

It was the only time I saw republicans, democrats, conservatives, liberals, libertarians and communists all getting along and shearing each other's memes across social media. People who, ordinarily, can't agree on anything but hating each other: suddenly got along as they all took a time out and went "okay... we'll get back to this later - for now lets deal with these pricks first." There was universal harmony for days on end, it was amazing.

I think the original HOA premise was valid but then a certain demographic with WAY TOO MUCH time on their hands corrupted it and now…well… if I want to paint my house a color I like and they don’t. Hope they brought old clothes when they come over because their outfit is about to match my house.

I find it hilariously appropriate that they renamed Fort Pickett after after Colonel Barfoot. Why we ever had an Army base named after a literal Traitor like George Pickett in the first place is beyond me. But at least now it finally honors a REAL American hero.

@@dj11o9er We have history books and museums to remember history with. Erecting statues and naming things after people is how we HONOR them, not how we remember them, and no traitor deserves to be honored. And yes, they were Americans, which is the entire problem. Because they were Americans who took up arms against their countrymen and murdered them in job lots for a cause that was manifestly morally bankrupt. This is textbook High Treason, and it's baffling to me how many people seem to think it's appropriate to raise monuments and name things in honor of men who betrayed their most sacred oaths to their country. Especially when, like in this particular case with Pickett, the traitor in question was actually a U.S. military officer who solemnly swore to defend the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, before spitting on that oath and doing the exact opposite. Frankly, the only thing men like Lee, Pickett and Jackson deserved at the end of the war was a hangman's noose, not to have institutions named after them and statues raised in their honor.

I'll tell you how you end up as an HOA president - go to the first meeting after moving in, you know, to get the feel of the place, and say NOT IT! last. Boom. You're the new president. Yes, we, the hundreds in the 'hood will call you day & night for absolutely no reason. When we moved into a city proper, I swore I'd never get involved in local politics again.

There’s only one hoa president I ever respected. That’s because he was my neighbor and actively flouting all the rules he wanted. Keeping chickens. It was good stuff. And he got away with it because I don’t complain about them.

HOAs, in theory, are great. Bunch of people get together and agree on how to keep the value of their homes and land high. Everyone wins. Problem is, power corrupts and with no real oversight, they go tyrannical real quick.

Dude, I've never owned a home but the very concept of the HOA has pissed me off. Seriously, what entitled losers with too much time on their hands feel the need to tell others what a home owner should do with their house as long as it isn't breaking the law? If I ever have to deal with people like this, this veritable hive of WASPS, then people will learn why I'm called Berserker

ban HOA. if i paid for my house, i refuse to pay for someone to tell me how to live in it. and anyone who does, i feel sorry for them. also the property value thing only RAISES YOUR TAXES............ i WANT a shithole house near me, so i dont pay taxes as high on my own property. im not planning on moving or selling. so screw raising the value.

Alright, first off I'll get this right out of the way, you couldn't pay me to live in an HOA. No thanks. That said. There's some aspects that are good. Fees that go to community property maintenance, rather than giving the city more taxes and waiting on the city to actually do the things with those taxes, everyone pools money into taking care of community property. Which includes, if you're in your own little one-access sub, the private road servicing that sub. And because it's a private road, guess what, people not invited can be told to get the hell out. Which includes cops (without an actual lawful reason to be there). And some people probably like that. And others probably like the increased market value of their house because the neighborhood appears a little nicer... even if the house will take ages to actually sell. Of course, that's assuming the HOA does any of that and the president doesn't just pocket the money. Which has happened. They went to jail, but it has happened. And of course, for all that, you also then have to deal with the HOA, and the people that make up the HOA, and that's just a hard pass.

Ugh, HOAs are bullshit. Like I understand like, people in a cul-de-sac or gated community be like "we want the neighborhood to look nice with cut grass and no cars blocking the street" but like, all the other shit is dumb as hell and shouldn't be run by an organization, it should just be like, a small charter or something everyone agrees on during a cookout or something
