Am I not the only one that likes the Friendly Shadow both because he’s a Detective bot and looks like Detective Valentine? Because this guy has to be one of my favorite characters for that in the Autodale series.

The introduction of my personal favorite character. It really says something about this society that the guy who is mostly machine is more human than most of the people there. We also get a greater look at how this society works.

Hey old man, I'm not sure if you are interested but Dead Sound does a behind the scenes for each episode in which some lore questions are answered, even if you don't record it I would recommend watching them. If you decide not to whatch them I will say what the heads are. SPOILERS LAST WARING. The heads (as reviled in the behind the scenes vids) are the "Exceptional" people who figure out the truth. They are collected and added to the council and they help dictate what happens in the city. The center head was the first "Exceptional" person (The girl in "No Monsters"), and the friendly shadow was a member of the council who had the most humanity, deductive reasoning, and independence of all the heads and fills the investigational roll.

I'm reminded of the Voight-Kampff test in Bladerunner in regards to the people in this series. One of the common theories for spotting a replicant is the test keeps asking about empathy-related questions, and the replicants have more empathy than the humans. In this, people are so blind the cruelty around them that androids and literal monsters have more compassion.

The wife didn't just get killed because she failed her duty of maintaining a model family. She gets killed because she is a witness to the "invincible protectors and system" being fallible. It goes back to the opening scene with the propaganda of the machine men protecting the wall of the city, while a broken chunk of said wall goes unnoticed.
