Just installed this as a DIYer. This guy makes this look easy, it is a JOB to install this my goodness. But now that its done looks amazing. Some things I learned that I would do differently: 1) When youre cutting these with a diamond blade on a grinder, the brick will break if youre too eager. Take your time cutting the bricks, and hold the brick firmly down that youre cutting cause if its loose itll rattle and break. 2) The amount of dust created when cutting these bricks is kinda nuts. Do it outside if you can and wear a mask. 3) Wear gloves when grouting. An obvious step, but i skipped it cause i didnt have any and didnt feel like buying any at the time. I did this with bare hands and theres a chemical in the grout i used that i think helps cure it and it burns your hands pretty good and dries them out. 4) Buy more sponges than you think you need for the grouting. The brick is abraisive and eats away at your sponge pretty quickly leaving little bits of it behind which is annoying to clean up and pick out of your grout. 5) Buy extra grout. Whatever the bag estimates for the square footage, it may not take into account that the gaps are half and inch or bigger on this brick and eat up grout like nobodys business. I had a tiny 50 square foot bathroom that ended up going through two 25lbs bags of Polyblend that estimated 100 square foot coverage area per 25lbs bag with 1/4" tile gap. You'll need lots.

Other similar thin brick manufacturers say that installing these on cement is okay to do as long as you prep the cement prior to install.
@highgritfarms2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can. I saw another tutorial of a porch done in herringbone on the manufacturers website.

I have Chicago brick floors that were previously sealed. They are almost the same color as my kitchen cabinets as is. I want to lighten the brick floors and thought that white washing be a good idea; however was told that because the bricks were sealed, I could not do a traditional white wash. Any ideas of how I could get a white wash look on a sealed brick floor and it be durable?

I’d search that on KZbin. You may have to sand the original top coat first.

Can it be installed with the cement board on a wood subfloor or does it have to be on cement?
@deadseamorty21 күн бұрын
Yes you can add the cement board overtop of a wood subfloor. I used Shluter Ditra a plastic membrane over a wood subfloor. Same idea though.

Was there a reason why you didn't apply or stable a mesh wire first to the plywood flooring than screw the cement board on top? Asking for a friend lol .. great work.

Our installer just put the cement over the sub flooring turned out beautiful. Not one issue.
