Today there is a new addition to my knife collection. This is an old rusty sujihiki knife. If I am not mistaken, it is made in China from Japanese steel. If I'm wrong, I'd be happy to read your opinion in the comments.
In this video I will try to bring it back to life.

Beautiful knife restoration. I love the handle! What kind of wood is it? Is it from a Japanese tree?

Very interesting Old Rusty. I was intrigued by several of your techniques but when you attached the handles to the blade I was amazed to see you keep the integrity of the knife by not slathering everything in epoxy and clamping like so many artisans do. I liked the quality and craftmanship of measuring and counter-sinking the Chicago rivets. They look like they will last a life-time. I also noted a very handsome dog in one of your shots found elsewhere on your site. A dog guy is okay in my books! Kudos

Hey! I'm so sorry if this has been answered in other videos. Can you briefly explain the mason jar process? What is the liquid, perhaps how long is it resting in the jar? This is amazing and I'm going down a rabbit hole haha. I want to restore my family's 12" knife that looks like this one with the rust! Great work!

Nice job. Please identify in future vids the liquids used (vinegar and ?(for the scales) in this vid) and also the grit progression during polishing. Also, for anyone wondering the fasteners OP made are readily available and are know as 'corby bolts'.

Nice video and a beautiful result. To me it appeared you impregnated the wood for the handle by a vacuum process. With what substance did you impregnate the wood? Was it an oil or something else?
@OldRusty
@OldRusty 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for the review. This is a special compound for curing wood and not only wood. It penetrates very deeply into the pores and becomes fall resistant when heated to 90 degrees Celsius.
