Olds Recording SN# 531245

Excellent Vintage Olds Recording Model Trumpet SN# 531245 (Circa 1965) Copper Lead pipe, Copper Bell. Valves have good POP compression and all slides and valves are fast and smooth. This one plays like melted butter! Balanced action with the offset valves. I love these horns. I own one myself! Very Cool Olds Recording. Dark tone but can honk if you put the jets to it. The horn is all original including the 3rd slide trigger mechanism.. No dents, dings, or trauma. Recent Lacquer overhaul with sharp bell engraving still intact. The tone is beautiful dark and rich with spot on intonation. The Bell engraving is sharp and clear and a beautiful example of hand craftsmanship of a by gone era by Leonard Garcia. Med. Large Bore Free blowing. Valves and slides are perfectt with lots of compression. The valves match the s/n (531245) of the horn. I have more lots pictures if you need them.

I've always enjoyed the warmer tone of the Olds Recorder over the bright tone of the Martin Commitee, although that horn is an all-star as well

I have an Olds Studio which originally was finished in a nickel plate then had this fabulous clear coat lacquer on top!!! I was mesmerized when I first opened the case in the music shop!! Unfortunately its seen better days and is now about 36 years old. I had it re- done but the ruined it finishing it only in nickel, such a shame. I recently purchased a Yamaha custom!!! Rev lead but I'd rather have my Olds!!! You sure are a fine player!!! I'm very impressed with your improvisations on a theme!!!

Olds was a highly underrated company. YEs they're student horns played just as well as most pro level horns. The Recording is my most favorite horn of their line. Very fine horns indeed. I just put another Olds Recording up on KZbin. Stay Tuned To The HornTrader!

Very nice playing. I'm sorry I sold my Olds Recording; I think it was the overly responsive springs that turned me off. I like a soft touch, but did not know you could get softer springs that have less resistance. ciao.

Hey Steve! There's an Olds Recording from 1973 that's in silver plate on eBay.... did they still use the Rey-O-Loy in the later Recordings?

They did Rey-O-Loy in the later Recordings. That Ebay horn has been re-plated with silver. My Polish friend runs a repair shop and I'm sure he had something to do with the finish.

Hello Steve, yet another question!... How would you compare the Olds Recording to the Schilke B1? I'm particularly interested in regards to the blow of each horn.

The Olds Recording is a little darker sounding the blow has a passive resistance that feels good to blow against. The Schilke B1 has a brighter sound and is much lighter to hold. They are very different horns but both great horns. The Recording on might site is an excellent example of a Olds Recording with Copper or Rey O Loy Bell and lead pipe. How would you say the Olds Ambassador would compare to the Recording? I understand that the Ambassador was sold as a "student" horn back in the day, but isn't it true that even by today's standards they play just as well as most "pro" level horns?

I have an Olds Ambassador that I found in a pawn shop in the early 90’s. I sent it off and had it refurb with silver plate. I love it.
