The contact cement that you get from the hardware store is the same stuff made by the same company but it’s just a bit thicker so it doesn’t spray quite as well. I’ve been using it for 45 years as well but in the leather and construction business so, usually with a brush or a roller. But after your last video where you pointed out that you don’t have to clean the sprayer between uses… I now spray it because I’m venturing into upholstery. Mineral spirits will help it release… Acetone will kind of dissolve it but can be harsh on various surfaces and materials. But here’s a secret…. If you want to thin it or completely reconstitute dried cement… Get you some Toluene. You can get it just about anywhere you can get mineral spirits or acetone. You don’t even have to worry about letting the glue dry in your brushes. Just soak them for a few minutes in the toluene and the dry glue completely dissolves or reactivates. Thanks for the videos… They’ve been tremendously helpful.

👍👍 I'm old school I worked for a company called Advanced specialties putting vinyl tops on brand new cars in 1976 till 1979 for car dealers in Los Angeles we'd clean the glue off the paint with cleaning solvent but before that my daddy had me to use gas. car paint is gas proof so it works well ,I just don't like the smell of it I think cleaning solvent is the best that's my experience I'm enjoying your show Richard

Good morning Richard. I was not able to find the contact adhesive at any of the big box stores. I did find contact cement, which comes with the red can instead of the blue can that you show. They are made by the same company DAP. Therefore, I didn’t take the chance. I went ahead and ordered the 5 gallon can of contact adhesive from Keystone brothers. Thanks for all your help! I’m not an upholstery expert but I do know all contact adhesives are not the same. The key here is the Landau Top. That means it’s high temperature resistant when dry. Most contact adhesives will not tolerate the temperature of a dash panel in Texas in the summer Sun nor the roof temps. There are some identified as high temp but I’m not sure you can get those at a big box store.

Hello Mr, Thank you so much for saying so. My advise for pricing is, if the quality is good to very good, take that price and make it much higher. You will be surprised at how many people will agree to pay it. Different people have a perception of the value of money. When someone thinks it is too expensive, others will think it is cheap. My husband and I (65 & 64) are converting a cargo van into a camper. We’re complete novices. The van came with a metal partition between the cab and the rear. Functional, but kind of ugly and loud when banged into. After watching you do a new vinyl top on a car I got up the nerve to cover our partition with some lovely embossed vinyl. It looks beautiful, and I’m now confident the Landau contact adhesive will not let us down. Thank you so much❣️All the best with your move.
