This looks like a pretty damn nice spin on arch and i3, kudos to the endeavour team for giving a semi blank canvas to get those who are interested in i3 and arch a way into the party to get their feet wet. Hats off to you sir, you've definitely done it again!!!

Endeavour + Tiling window managers would be really great for people new to Arch. Still prefer bspwm and dwm over i3, so it would be interesting if they could make one. Still, great and informative video as always!

It’s quite a beautiful convenient system this. I quite like i3, after Xmonad and my current and favorite Qtile. So if I needed a quick i3 install this would do, even though in this case I could probably put together my own i3 from my config files at just slight more time (a little more time taken by installing the arch base) than it would take to install this. But this I like. Truly, “what’s not to like”. Thank you OTB.

Watching this on Manjaro i3wm with polybar. The only problem I have with Endeavour and was same problem with Antergos is it'll boot into a Live session and install but after a reboot it always fails or gets stuck during bootup. Every single time on all my different PCs. All are EFI boot. No issues with any other distro. I've heard from many others having these problems too. Hopefully, won't be Endeavour's same fate as Antergos's.

Other than the install process, what's the biggest difference between Arco Linux I 3 edition and Endeavor i3 edition? Excuse my ignorance but I'm fairly new to Linux. Btw.. love the content. 👍🏾

Arco has a lot of theming and configuration out of the box. Endeavour is nearer to vanilla so encourages you to build your own setup

I wish Endeavour had a better "store". - I don't mind the command line - I"m perfectly comfortable with the terminal. But package installation seem so tedious and esoteric. It doesn't really have to be like self inflicted root canal does it ?

Hi, Steve! As I remarked in your latest video on setting up your Garden Studio, you are to blame for me deserting Linux Mint and adopting EndeavourOS Mate as my daily driver and happy that I did so. It is running all but a couple of the applications I was running on Mint - Artha - a thesaurus and My-Weather-Indicator. One major problem at the moment is that I cannot get my Brother MFC-J5730W printer. The Forum members advised me to install Cups (I didn't see the option to do install Printer Support on installation). I did so but the Control Center does not have an option to install printers and I find Cups unintuitive. I know that the printer drivers are presenbt in the Linux Kernel but the computer will not recognise them. Any hints, pleasse?
@OldTechBloke4 жыл бұрын
Hi Albert, you need to install brother-mfc-j5730dw 1.0.1_0-1 from the aur. Then if you use the system-config-printer utility it should find everything. So just do yay -S brother-mfc-j5730dw

Ok I got this Arch-ish :D on a SSD but plasma5 && LXQT/KDE5 , ok, fast and clean, I got the netinstall ,as you did, the most important aspect is the speed, 12 minutes 20 seconds from "install" to "reboot", what can I say WOW, ... Thanks for the look OTB! I just Love EndeavourOS next to Eznix's EzArcher it is my Favorite Arch installer... I remember 6 months after they came out from Antigos it was so new that you had to install tons of stuff if you wanted something to work. Wanted a printer, install CUPS and drivers. Wanted to play sound and videos, you had to find and install all the Codecs yourself... Yes the growing pains of a new Distro... Lol As the year has past they added all that stuff and more so with that said they are not as close to a base system as once was BUT They are way better and easier to setup and install out of the box... Aw yes, the growing pains of Calamares gave them a run as it does for any distreo that wants to use the Calamares installer... They was the first team that figured out the issues and fixed Calamares so it would work for them! Brilliant team of Dev's!!! While I still install the Cinnamon DE as the base, now days like you, I'm doing WM's... Right now I am still on Spectrwm, I have Awesome, Herbstluftwm and wmderland (interesting WM) installed but not configured, because I got stuck on Spectrwm. LOL DWM is on my list to look at as well as finishing the others that I have installed. I could give this i3 a look at... I simply love the EndeavourOS Forum, it is the best I have ever been on and next two Joe Collins Ezeetalk are great. Those are the two that I spend my time on and have some of the best folks to give a helping hand. Now sometimes they may not answer with RTFM, but you may get a link with a hardy "Give this link a try"an see if that fix's it... But if you come back with the same question but in another way in the same post, hay ho, you get a answer... Lol That is a rear now days as they tend to make suggestions with "did you try this" question and always "try this", what did that do? Go to the Wiki and read THIS, but if you are trying the least bit you will always get help! You can ask questions about other stuff and distros too, but Arch is there fortay... Great bunch of folks can't say enough about them... I too use EndeavourOS as my Arch Base, quick and easy... Lazy too.... :-D Can't wait for the "Shed /Barn" reveil, this will be exciting! Thanks OTB! Done Rambling now... LOL Indiana Calling! Have a Great weekend! LLAP

Probably not Steven, but I'm not concerned about that. If we designed Linux to be like windows we wouldn't have linux as we've come to know and love it
@Steven_nevetS4 жыл бұрын
@@OldTechBloke Yeah, but reason Microsoft is around is due to them having income. Linux devs need income too so the more people that start to use Linux, the more donations will come to the devs. Just seen so may distro's and devs fade away. Anyway, my 2 cents :)
@TheAsymmetrical3 жыл бұрын
@@Steven_nevetS old post but having a one tea fits all type approach is the precise problem with windows and osx. Because you're telling people how to use, how it /should/ be and giving a world of a few billion people that there is nothing but their product. Both companies ascended to their positions not through income and people "voting with their wallets. " it was built predominantly upon predatory and monopolistic practices that has gone largely unchallenged for 40 years. I3 might not be everyone's cup of tea and it might be inaccessible to a great deal of people, but in the same wau a mouse is a lifesaver for people with limited hand movement but are cumbersome for people with tremors or carpal tunnel. Or you're like me and it just makes sense to navigate the device that I spend the majority of my working existence infront of like I navigate vim (also not everyone's cup of tea.) But that's rarely the point is it? People like teas for a variety of different reason, some people don't. No one in this instance is making you drink tea or coffee you don't like and I don't think anyone should be in the mindset of divinating what teas some may or may not like.
